Job Title: CFCD Covert Surveillance Team Leader

Join the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) as a Team Leader in our covert surveillance unit, part of our initiative to combat fraud within the welfare system. This role involves leading a team of highly trained Operatives in a challenging yet rewarding environment. Please note that this is not a standard office role and requires working unsociable hours, including early starts, late finishes, and some weekends, alongside maintaining good physical fitness.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide leadership to ensure the effective operation of the team, fostering teamwork and implementing effective processes.
  2. Deploy regularly on surveillance operations, supporting team development and skills reviews to ensure compliance with training and best practices.
  3. Create an engaging team environment that promotes coaching and a collaborative approach.
  4. Work as part of a team to meet operational goals, managing resources efficiently to adapt to organizational changes and reduce costs.
  5. Manage tasking requests, ensuring surveillance activities are cost-effective, compliant with legal standards such as the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, the Police Act 1997, and the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996, and aligned with departmental policies.
  6. Occasionally lead the Surveillance Team as Officer in Charge (OIC), providing direction under dynamic circumstances to meet operational objectives.
  7. Conduct risk assessments and oversee the production of high-standard evidential packages, including witness statements and evidence compilation, ensuring legal and procedural compliance.
  8. Strictly adhere to DWP surveillance standards and related procedures, ensuring legal and policy compliance.
  9. Complete necessary training, including residential courses, to support role requirements.
  10. Maintain professional standards and, when required, serve as a witness in court proceedings.
  11. Participate actively in surveillance operations, which may involve unsocial hours, travel, and overnight stays.
