We are looking for a Compliance Analyst to support Defra in meeting required and mandated security obligations. This role will help gather evidence, maintain compliance records, support assurance activity, track actions against agreed standards and frameworks and work with the security risk team. This role is crucial to Defra because strong security compliance helps protect critical services, information and public confidence across the organisation. Working across Defra group, you will contribute to compliance returns, internal assurance work and continuous improvement activity, helping to ensure that compliance activity is organised, evidenced and reported accurately.
Responsibilities
- Support internal and external audits relating to information security by gathering evidence, maintaining records and coordinating responses.
- Undertake compliance checks against agreed frameworks and standards such as ISO 27001, GovAssure and DSHC.
- Support the collation and submission of departmental security returns, ensuring information is complete, accurate and timely.
- Maintain compliance trackers, action logs and assurance documentation to support oversight and reporting.
- Monitor progress against compliance actions and follow up with relevant teams to obtain updates and supporting evidence.
- Assist with drafting reports, summaries and briefing material for senior colleagues.
- Support reviews of policies, procedures and standards to identify gaps, updates and opportunities for improvement.
- Liaise with risk, security and business teams to help maintain an accurate picture of compliance status, risks, controls and mitigations.
- Escalate issues, gaps or emerging concerns to senior colleagues where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Experience in compliance, assurance, governance, audit or a similar analytical environment.
- Ability to gather, review and interpret evidence and information from multiple sources.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records, trackers and documentation.
- Ability to work with a range of stakeholders to obtain information, monitor actions and support delivery against deadlines.
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear reports and summaries.
- Aware of information security principles and compliance processes.
- Ability to identify issues, assess priorities and escrow matters appropriately.
