Purpose of the Role

A creative and versatile food content producer that is passionate about food and drink, bringing fresh and exciting ideas to the table. Reporting to the Food Lead, the role will create and manage food-related content for our content channels. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in seasonality, recipe development and food editorial, with the ability to create engaging and exciting content that resonates with passionate food lovers.

What you’ll do

  • Assist in planning and creating innovative food content for digital, editorial, recipe cards, advertorials, direct mail, social and other special projects. This includes recipes, cooking tips, health and nutrition advice, meal planning guides and product reviews.
  • Commission writers and contributors for recipe content, ensuring they meet deadlines and they’re on brand.
  • Edit food content copy to ensure consistency with house style.
  • Ensure that all recipes are triple-tested (at least 90% of testing conducted in the Waitrose Food kitchen) and that they deliver consistent, high-quality results.
  • Ensure all recipes are Waitrose friendly and nutritionally appropriate. If required, check with individual buyers to verify availability of products, appropriate seasonality and that packshots and prices are timely.
  • Write technical cookery content, providing expert advice and clear instructions.
  • Participate in planning meetings and marketing briefings, working with designers, art directors and content creators to ensure the content is visually compelling and aligned with brand guidelines.

What you’ll bring

  • Formal cookery training or substantial experience working in professional kitchens.
  • Experience in editorial roles for food-focused magazines and digital content platforms, with a strong understanding of the editorial process.
  • Proven experience in writing, testing, and editing recipes, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, and engaging.
  • A solid understanding of UK food safety regulations and compliance standards, as well as nutritional standards and government guidelines.
  • Experience working with clients, maintaining professional relationships and managing content that meets client goals.
  • Ability to work closely with designers, art directors, and other creatives to deliver high-quality, visually compelling food content.
