A talented and experienced Senior Designer to deliver the design direction of our media-funded print content. This role will be key in managing the creative process for all print-based assets, ensuring high-quality design that aligns with brand guidelines and meets the needs of both advertisers, Waitrose and audiences. You will be part of a team of designers while working collaboratively with other departments to produce impactful and visually compelling print materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver the art direction and design of commercial content, ensuring high-quality execution of our magazines, newspaper, recipe cards, brochures and other print collateral.
- Cast, brief and lead food photography teams to ensure a high-quality output that meets supplier need, planned channel usage and maintains brand consistency.
- Collaborate with the editorial team to bring concepts to life and with the Video Lead to provide art direction for media-funded video.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of the wider Food Studio content, outside of paid-for content.
- Work with printers, vendors, and production teams to ensure accurate, high quality and timely execution of print materials.
- Maintain and evolve the brand’s visual language across print assets, ensuring consistency and alignment with broader creative strategy.
- Present and communicate design concepts to key stakeholders, providing clear rationale and direction.
- Stay updated on design trends and print technologies to continuously improve design quality and efficiency.
Required Skills And Experience
- Proven experience (5+ years) in graphic design, with a strong focus on print publications and the production process.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating your experience in print publications, with examples of design-led editorial projects.
- Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) and other design software.
- Strong understanding of typography, layout design, colour theory, and print production techniques.
- Experience managing and leading design teams, with the ability to provide mentorship and direction.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain design concepts clearly to non-designers and clients.
- High attention to detail, ensuring that all designs meet print standards and client expectations.
- Experience in collaborating with external vendors, including printers and suppliers, to ensure smooth project execution.
