To support the ambitions for growth & technological innovation, Merkle Ireland is seeking a visionary leader with deep Salesforce technical expertise as Technical Director to lead and drive internal operations and integration, team development and the strategic direction of Salesforce solutions. The role has oversight for the creation of solution architecture for the Salesforce system and platforms, ensuring all relevant options are explored for time, cost and compliance to the company’s standards, policies and practices whilst meeting the business’ requirements. The role will oversee the work of other Architects, Technical Leads and Developers and the delivery of the solution for clients both internal and external, shepherding it through the relevant governance.

A minimum of 60% of your role will be dedicated to developing, implementing, and overseeing the technology programme in Merkle Ireland and across the Salesforce UKI Practice, responsible for leading the technical team in the design, development, implementation, and delivery of projects ensuring that standards are upheld to meet the business needs. The role may have up to 40% client work based on business need. During this time, you may engage directly with clients, leveraging your technical expertise to design Salesforce solutions, advising customers on architectural and technical development best practices.

This ideal candidate has deep technical knowledge of the Salesforce ecosystem and is a strategic leader who excels in managing high-performance teams. Merkle Ireland offers hybrid working with 2 days per week in the office.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor a team of Solution Architects, Technical Leads & Developers to ensure the successful design, development, implementation, and delivery of Salesforce solutions, ensuring technical and development standards are upheld to meet the client and business needs. Foster a positive, collaborative and high-performance team culture, focusing on continuous improvement and professional development. Working across Integrated Delivery to understand training requirements and skillset needed to support business growth. Connecting the business needs to individual and team training goals. Guide team members through transitions and evolving challenges, maintaining morale and ensuring alignment with company values. Leading our bonus, performance review, promotion, and ASR process. Ensuring consistency across the team, connected to feedback and performance. Provide coaching, feedback and support to team members to help them achieve their career goals and grow within the organisation. Experience with a remote and hybrid workforce and internationally distributed teams.
  • Strategic Direction: Collaborate with key stakeholders across the business to define and execute the integrated technology strategy with business goals. This includes staying ahead of industry trends and emerging clouds to drive our competitive advantage. Contribute to strategic discussions and provide insights to improve team effectiveness. Develop and implement strategies to improve team performance, increase operational efficiency and streamline internal processes. Monitor and evaluate team performance, ensuring that all team members are aligned with project and organisational goals.
  • Process Improvement & Innovation: Identify opportunities to improve processes and workflows with a focus on an integrated UKI Salesforce practice, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the team. Promote a culture of continuous improvement, driving innovation within the team, encouraging new ideas and innovation for delivering high-quality solutions and staying ahead of market trends.
  • Stakeholder Management: Collaborate and engage with key stakeholders across the UKI Practice, offering support and leadership on integration activities and initiatives. Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, ensuring that technology solutions align with client expectations and deadlines. Serve as an escalation point for complex or high-risk technical issues, ensuring that they are addressed proactively.
  • Client Work: Engage directly with clients based on business need up to 40% of your time, leveraging your deep technical expertise to advise on architectural and technical development. Designing and putting in place secure, robust and scalable IT architectures and Salesforce solutions. Hands-on experience developing teams throughout the software development lifecycle, managing setting up deployment processes and tools.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Significant experience leading development teams throughout the software development lifecycle, managing setting up deployment processes and tools.
  • Strong background in Salesforce platforms, including Salesforce Cloud solutions (Sales, Service, Marketing, etc.), with in-depth knowledge of Salesforce project delivery methodologies.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of working with Salesforce.com using out of the box Salesforce functionality.
  • Experience designing custom functionality using LWC, Aura, triggers, different custom jobs, flows, data migrations and good understanding of Salesforce best practices.
  • Experience designing different types of integrations between Salesforce and other systems for example integrations using Salesforce APIs, outgoing integrations, web services, Salesforce Connect, Mulesoft and middleware solutions.
  • Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
  • Proven success in leading teams and managing internal operations, with the ability to shift to client-facing tasks when needed.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Strong organisational, problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on technical and operational excellence, and team performance.
  • Ability to engage with clients and stakeholders effectively and provide internal leadership.
  • You will hold multiple Salesforce certifications.
  • Experience working in a professional services or consultancy environment preferred.
