The role oversees the technology landscape and incorporates the leadership of core IT Infrastructure, Data, Business Applications and IT Security teams, with some led by and managed by 3rd parties, some in-house.
The opportunity in this role is to review the current state of the technology function, bring together disparate teams and then use that platform to make recommendations, putting in place a strategic roadmap of innovation to drive the adoption and success of technology in the business, this is not a keep the lights on role!
You will need a fundamental understanding of technology, in particular Microsoft systems and cloud technology, although not in the weeds, you will need to understand its capabilities, limitations and costs. You will have led Data teams before in particular around Data Governance which is a core component for the business.
Aside from Data and Infrastructure, the Business Applications function will also form part of your team and a top to bottom review will need to take place to understand the landscape, what has worked well and changes that may be required in the applications estate. Many of these applications, as well as parts of the Cyber Security function, are led by 3rd parties so you’ll need to be an expert in vendor management and have the ability to build partnerships externally.
The technology budget will be under your control and this will include a Capex and Opex element with the explicit aim of delivering a first-class service to the business and enabling via tech. This will include an investigation into new technology, specifically AI and where the business could benefit from its usage.
There are some key components and core experience that is required for this role and for someone to be successful. You MUST have worked in an environment with multiple stakeholders at board level with a vested interest in the technology landscape, so you will need to have worked in a partnership model or similar previously.
This is a superb opportunity to shape the digital offering for a business with an international presence, although the team is relatively small, there is a real chance to deliver change and innovation.
