The Finance team of Dentons UK and Middle East LLP is a vibrant, capable team based in UK, Dubai, Ireland and Poland and supports all aspects of the firm's financial requirements from the provision of strategic support through to detailed transactional processing, with a key focus on providing high-quality customer service to our internal and external clients. The Cashiers team has specific focus on ensuring the firm complies with SRA accounts rules relating to client money balances held within the firm.
The role will have responsibility for the identification and repatriation of residual Client a/c balances in line with the firm's policies and the SRA Accounts Rules and assisting in identifying Client a/c balances that can be paid to charity in line with the firm's policies and SRA Accounts Rules. The role is a temporary role - expected to be 6 months (with potential to increase).
Responsibilities
- Assisting with the residual Client a/c balance project;
- Scheduling and conducting Teams calls with fee earners & Partners to discuss Client a/c balances, followed up with execution emails;
- Investigating and clearing residual Client a/c balances with Partner approval;
- Investigating residual Client a/c balances that can be paid away to charity in line with SRA Rules;
- Writing up detailed notes on each balance that is to be donated to charity in line with SRA Rules for review by the Legal Cashiers Manager;
- Responsibility for updating the Legal Cashiers Manager on a fortnightly basis on the progress being made and collating the replies to the firm's bi-monthly residual balance memo which is sent to all Matter Partners who hold a balance on Client a/c that is over 1 year old;
- Liaising with the Revenue Control team and the Partners in UK and Ireland (and also where possible in the Middle East) in relation to all residual Client a/c balances;
- Liaising with the Cashiering to make sure approved instructions for payments and transfers are completed in a timely manner;
- Dealing with the DWP's address tracing service when trying to trace individual clients;
- Researching other Client's details on Companies House and completing online searches to try to track down clients;
- Completing return post mail drops to the last known addresses of Clients and collating the responses;
- Ensure all filing is kept up to date;
- Assisting the Cashiers Manager with any ad hoc duties, as appropriate including audit questions relating to residual balances.
Required experience, skills, and attributes
- Working knowledge of Solicitors Regulation Authority Accounts Rules;
- Previous experience of working as a Legal Cashier on Client a/c preferable;
- Knowledge of the Elite 3E/Elite Enterprise system would be beneficial;
- Strong computer literacy including knowledge of management information systems (Excel to intermediate level);
- High attention to detail, proven client-facing and organisational skills, with experience in a professional environment;
- Knowledge and practical experience analysing and interpreting data from various sources;
- Team player, able to work in a busy environment and adhere to strict deadlines.
