Overview

The Credit Control Manager will lead a team of Credit Controllers based in the UK, Dublin, and Warsaw, providing support to the Senior Working Capital Manager. The role is responsible for overseeing credit control operations, developing and implementing credit policies, managing the collections process, monitoring client exposure, resolving client queries and disputes, and producing management reports. The manager will ensure compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies, working closely with the Revenue Control Manager and E-billing Manager to minimise client exposure and lock up. Effective analytical, communication, and leadership skills are essential to improve cash flow, reduce bad debt, and maintain robust client relationships. The individual should be able to motivate the team and ensure cash targets are met for the UK and Ireland.

Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership:
  • Lead, mentor, and support the Credit Control team across all locations.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide feedback to team members.
  • Ensure proactive debt chasing by the team, with a target of at least 10 client/internal stakeholder calls per day.
  • Analyse and report on credit control performance, including debtor days and ageing reports, to senior management.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Set and monitor monthly collection targets for the team.
  • Escalate problematic clients, partners, or debts to senior management as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Dentons teams in other offices as required.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, finance, and other stakeholders.
  • Operational and General:
  • Respond to finance queries from partners, fee earners, and secretaries.
  • Assist the Working Capital team with ad hoc projects as required.
  • Liaise with global offices where necessary.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to work beyond core business hours to meet client and internal expectations.
  • Compliance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure all credit control activities comply with relevant regulations, internal policies, and GDPR requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all credit control activities.
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with credit exposure and collections.

Required experience, skills, and attributes

Essential

  • Experience in managing a Credit Control team, with deep knowledge of credit management and exposure.
  • Notable interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead a team.
  • Methodical and accurate approach to work.
  • Effective organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Adept at interacting at all levels within a professional services environment.
  • Motivated, with the ability to use initiative and provide support to senior management.
  • Proficient in Excel.
  • Willingness to work additional hours as required.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a law firm or similar professional services environment.
  • Knowledge of Elite 3E accounts system or similar financial software.
