The Pricing Manager is a high-profile, business- and client-facing role within the Commercial Finance function, partnering with Partners, Business Development, Legal Project Management, Innovation and other Business Services teams to shape commercially sound, creative, value-based pricing solutions. Reporting to the Senior Pricing Manager, you will oversee the delivery of pricing support across a portfolio of pursuits, panels and complex fee arrangements, providing robust analysis and clear recommendations. You will build credibility through high-quality commercial insight, practical judgement and clear communication, and will manage two analysts.
Responsibilities
- Trusted pricing advisor: Act as a commercial adviser to Partners and BD teams on pricing approach and commercial recommendations for priority pursuits, panels and key client opportunities, balancing client value, competitiveness and sustainable profitability with firm and practice growth strategies. Support Partners to structure and negotiate complex fee arrangements (including but not limited to alternative fee arrangements such as blended rates, fixed fees, capped fees, and conditional/contingent structures), providing clear options, trade-offs and recommendations. Participate in internal and (where appropriate) client discussions to articulate and defend value, shape commercial positioning and improve negotiation outcomes.
- High quality commercial analysis, financial modelling and decision support: Build and maintain financial models to evaluate pricing scenarios, risks and outcomes, enabling fast, high-quality decisions in demanding situations. Analyse pricing performance and profitability at matter, client and portfolio levels. Identify drivers, trends and improvement opportunities, and recommend actions to Partners. Translate complex analysis into clear, compelling narratives that resonate with senior stakeholders with varying levels of financial confidence.
- Team leadership and capability building: Provide day-to-day line management of two Pricing Analysts (Glasgow and Warsaw) under the direction of the Senior Pricing Manager, balancing workload, quality and deadlines while taking a hands-on approach to development. Some travel is expected. Support delivery of the Senior Pricing Manager's commercial training programme for partners and fee earners, including delivery of training.
- Market engagement and governance: Support adherence to and continuous improvement of pricing governance, escalating gaps and proposing pragmatic changes.
- Innovation and future-focused pricing: Keep abreast of market developments, competitor trends and evolving client expectations. Bring best practice recommendations that strengthen the firm's approach. Contribute to pricing for emerging products and service models, including AI-related offerings, by providing analysis, options and recommendations to support stakeholders' decisions.
Required experience, skills, and attributes
- Technical Skills: At least four years of experience in a pricing role in legal or professional services. Qualified candidates from other B2B environments will also be considered. Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability and advanced analytical skills. Able to produce clear, concise, high-quality analysis for senior stakeholders. Experience working with senior stakeholders in a structured environment, managing competing priorities and tight deadlines. An accountancy qualification is advantageous.
