The Team

Dentons Real Estate team is the largest in the largest in the world with a leading reputation across a broad spectrum of industries and markets. Our Team located in Milton Keynes forms an integral and seamless part of an award-winning practice which spans a complete range of real estate services to clients, from development, joint ventures, structured investments, acquisitions and disposals, landlord and tenant, retail and real estate finance to construction and property litigation.

The team combines a deep and current legal expertise with sophisticated marketplace knowledge and industry expertise and acts for the full spectrum of stakeholders including Network Rail, Dept of Work & Pensions and Sainsburys. The global expansion of our firm over recent years has broadened the international angle to our real estate practice.

The Role

The team works on a wide variety of real estate transactions, both domestic UK transactions and supporting activities of the firm\’s global clients. We deliver a client-focused responsive service for blue chip clients who expect the highest quality, great value and the delivery of excellent work. They, and we, expect our lawyers to be specialists in their sectors, and to be pro-active and commercially minded.

Work highlights for the Milton Keynes team include:

  • Advising Network Rail on a range of headline-making rail, infrastructure and commercial development projects and the management of their portfolio across the UK.
  • Advising household name retailers including Sainsbury\’s, Marks and Spencer and John Lewis on the management of their portfolios.
  • Acting for most of the UK banks, and many other funding parties, on several high-profile real estate funding transactions.
  • Acting for a Developer on a large regeneration project in London to build a new Football Stadium, Hotel and approximately 100 high-end apartments.
  • Acting for a Middle Eastern investor on its sale of a trophy investment site in Pimlico, London for c. £70m.
  • Acting for an Islamic Bank in the grant of a sharia compliant Ijara facility to a customer of the Bank seeking to purchase a property for £20m.
  • Acting for a large hotel owner in the listing of a portfolio of English and Scottish hotels and apart-hotels on the Singapore Stock Exchange.
  • Acting for Administrators on a large pub-sector administration affecting multiple sites.

Required experience, skills and attributes

The successful candidate would preferably have experience of all or most of the following:

  • Carrying out asset management and portfolio management work and providing general landlord/tenant leasing advice in connection with the grant of new leases and consents.
  • Buying and selling property including transactions subject to leases.
  • Working with a project team including construction and planning colleagues.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial real estate documents such as sale/purchase contracts, easements, licences and agreements for lease.
  • Dealing with the usual real estate due diligence requirements such as the preparation/review of certificates/reports on title.
