Dental Robotics is a London-based medical robotics startup building the next generation of autonomous dental care technologies. We are developing AI-powered robotic and automation solutions that will fundamentally change dentistry and how dental treatments are delivered. Our solutions are classed as medical devices and are classified under EU MDR. We work at the intersection of computer vision, sensor fusion, real-time AI control, and certified medical hardware. This is not a research project. We are building a regulated product, moving fast toward clinical validation, and we are doing this alongside the use of cutting-edge technology and techniques.
The Role
We are looking for a Robotic Systems Engineer to join our small, ambitious engineering team. Reporting to and supporting our Lead Engineer, you will be a critical technical hire supporting the integration of the full robotic system, including sensor fusion, hardware choices, control software, and clinical workflows. Your main responsibility within this role will be ensuring technical regulatory compliance within the robotics system, and experience in shipping robotic solutions in highly regulated (preferably clinical) industries is essential. You may well be required to support technical development items (such as control loops or sensor drivers), but your main role will be focused on the technical regulatory compliance against the standards given to you by our compliance team. This role sits at the system level. You will be the person who makes everything work together, as well as someone who makes the product shippable. If you have taken a complex robotic system from development through to deployment in a regulated environment, you will understand the demands of this role.
What You’ll Do
- Own and drive the technical regulatory compliance within the robotics products at Dental Robotics.
- Alongside our Lead Engineer, support full robotic system development and deployment.
- Contribute hands‑on to subsystems where needed, including sensor drivers, vision model integration, hardware selection, PCB or mechanical interface decisions.
- Maintain technical documentation to the standard required under EU MDR and applicable harmonised standards (IEC 62304, IEC 60601-1, ISO 14971). Our Compliance Team will support you in this process.
- Support design reviews, risk assessments, and verification & validation activities alongside our regulatory and quality teams.
- Collaborate with our international industry and academic partners, including hardware suppliers and simulation facilities.
- Bring a start‑up mindset. Take ownership, move with urgency, and work autonomously where needed while communicating progress clearly.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrable experience shipping advanced robotic systems in a highly regulated industry. Medical devices are strongly preferred, and aerospace, defence, or automotive safety systems are also considered.
- Hands‑on expertise in robotics systems integration, including sensor fusion, control systems, real‑time processing, hardware‑software interfaces.
- Solid understanding of robotic control principles, including latency management, deterministic execution, failsafe architecture, hardware constraints.
- Experience working with computer vision systems and integrating vision models into operational robotic pipelines.
- Familiarity with the regulatory and documentation requirements of medical device development (EU MDR, IEC 62304, ISO 14971, IEC 60601-1, or equivalent).
- Can read a technical standard and understand what our system needs to do / be.
- Proven ability to own technical work end‑to‑end in a fast‑moving environment with limited resource.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to produce clear engineering documentation and engage effectively with clinical and industry partners.
- Experience with certified robotic arm platforms.
- Background in medical imaging, clinical simulation, or dental/surgical environments.
- Experience with EU MDR technical documentation or clinical evidence generation.
- Prior startup experience.
- You are energised by ambiguity, not slowed by it.
Work on a genuinely novel medical device with no direct equivalent on the market. Own a technically deep, safety‑critical stack from day one. Competitive salary and equity at early‑stage valuation. Based in London, working alongside a focused, senior engineering team. Backed by clinical, industrial and government partners.
How to apply
We are particularly interested in candidates who have taken a system from prototype through to regulated deployment. Please send your CV and a brief note on the most complex robotic system within a highly regulated environment you have shipped, to recruitment@dentalrobotics.com.
