Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an apprentice dental nurse to join our friendly dental practice. We would love you to join us as an apprentice dental nurse and start your exciting career in dental nursing. The successful candidate will be assisting other dental health professionals, providing chairside support and a high level of patient care.
What you’ll do at work
- Provide chairside support to the operator during treatment.
- Prepare records, images, equipment and materials for clinical assessment.
- Process and manage dental radiographs and images.
- Prepare and maintain the clinical environment including instruments and equipment.
- Identify, assess, and manage medical emergencies.
- Develop and maintain patient records; monitor patient anxiety and reassure patients through effective communication and behavioural techniques.
- Offer comprehensive, personalised preventive advice to patients and carers to promote oral health and self-care.
- Adopt an evidence-based approach to clinical practice and act in accordance with current best practice guidelines.
- Maintain compliance with decontamination and infection control procedures according to current guidelines.
- Contribute to identifying risks within the clinical environment and manage them safely.
- Support patients to negotiate barriers to accessing oral healthcare and work in partnership with colleagues to provide care.
- Communicate effectively with patients, carers, the public and colleagues, including where English is not the first language.
- Record accurate, contemporaneous patient histories and dental charts, and ensure records comply with legal requirements.

What you will gain and eligibility
- Salary: £11,778 for the first year, may increase depending on age; adherence to National Minimum Wage for apprentices.
- Opportunity to register as a dental nurse with the General Dental Council (GDC) upon completion of the apprenticeship.
- Potential to develop into roles such as dental hygiene, dental therapy, or dental cosmetics with further training and progression opportunities.
- Must be aged 19 or above for this position due to insurance restrictions.
