Core Purpose
Reporting directly to the Deputy Head Academic, the Head of Learning Support holds primary responsibility for implementing and reviewing the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Policy at Denstone College. You will take a strategic lead in monitoring SEN provision across the school, advising the Senior Management Team, and ensuring pupils receive targeted support.

Teaching, Learning and Pupil Support
You will lead the delivery of effective literacy and numeracy support programmes whilst fostering a positive culture towards meeting individual educational needs. The post holder will act as the primary source of advice regarding dyslexia, dyspraxia, and other pupil needs, providing INSET and ongoing guidance to teaching staff.

Responsibilities
Collecting and interpreting assessment data (such as MidYis testing and speed of processing tests) and co‑ordinating the Reading Mentoring Scheme. Constructing forward‑thinking support plans for SEN pupils, producing relevant information for parents, and overseeing Educational Health & Care Plans (EHCP) in collaboration with external agencies.

Administration and Compliance
You will manage learning support timetables, oversee departmental staffing resources, and lead the production of Individual Education Plans. The role requires organising external examination access arrangements, completing Form8s, and working closely with the Examinations Officer to guarantee full JCQ compliance. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records on iSAMS, as well as updating the “SEN Register” and “Exam Access Arrangements Register” on Teams.

Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will possess a detailed working knowledge of SEN practices, EHCP processes, and JCQ guidelines, supported by a relevant teaching qualification and significant experience in an educational setting. You will need clear communication skills and an analytical mindset to interpret assessment data, provide INSET training, and advise the Senior Management Team. You must demonstrate a strict commitment to keeping children safe in education, maintain confidentiality, and be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
