Dennis Johns Service Group is looking for an experienced Electrical Authorised Person (AP) to join our growing Electrical Infrastructure Department. This is not a standard electrical maintenance role. We work across critical and technically demanding environments including hospitals, universities, medical research facilities, data centres, high-rise buildings and critical commercial sites. The successful candidate will support the safe operation, maintenance and management of our clients' electrical infrastructure, working alongside our Technical Management, SAP/AP team, engineers, specialist contractors and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking LV AP duties and, where suitably qualified and experienced, HV AP duties
  • Electrical switching, isolation and safe systems of work
  • Preparing and reviewing switching schedules and isolation procedures
  • Issuing and receiving electrical safety documentation where authorised
  • Supporting planned shutdowns and Black Building scenarios
  • Supporting LV/HV maintenance and electrical infrastructure works
  • Working with generators, UPS, ATS and standby power systems
  • Reviewing RAMS and technical documentation
  • Carrying out technical site surveys
  • Identifying defects, operational restrictions and electrical risks
  • Providing technical support during faults and emergency callouts
  • Producing clear reports, switching documentation and client correspondence
  • Liaising with clients, engineers, contractors and facilities teams

Experience & Qualifications

  • Recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent qualification
  • BS 7671 18th Edition
  • Current or previous LV Authorised Person experience
  • Experience with electrical switching, isolation and safe systems of work
  • Good knowledge of LV switchboards and distribution systems
  • Ability to understand electrical drawings and single-line diagrams
  • Good understanding of RAMS and electrical risk management
  • Strong fault-finding and technical problem-solving ability
  • Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Emergency first aid at work

Desirable experience includes:

  • HV AP experience
  • C&G 2391
  • IOSH/NEBOSH
  • Manufacturer-specific switchgear training
  • Experience with generators, UPS, ATS or HTM 06 environments

Out-of-Hours Working

Due to the nature of critical infrastructure, electrical shutdowns, switching and maintenance frequently need to be completed outside normal working hours. Applicants must therefore be willing to undertake planned evening, night and weekend working, together with occasional emergency callout support. Where possible, planned works will be organised in advance and shared across the team. However, out-of-hours working is an essential requirement of this position.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who is technically capable, safety focused and comfortable taking responsibility as an Authorised Person. You should be able to remain calm during faults and shutdowns, follow agreed switching procedures, challenge unsafe working practices and communicate confidently with clients, engineers and management. Above all, we want someone who takes electrical safety seriously, does not take shortcuts and understands the responsibility that comes with being an AP.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to join a developing Electrical Infrastructure Department working across HV/LV infrastructure, critical power systems, shutdown management, electrical maintenance and fault response. For the right person, there will also be opportunities to continue developing through the AP/SAP structure and take on greater technical responsibility.

Salary and package will be discussed based on experience, qualifications and current level of authorisation.
