Overview
Fixed term/Secondment opportunity for a System Administrator within the Pathology IT Team. The role supports the Trust\’s ICE Desktop Order Communications system, including system testing, user training and support, system development and day-to-day maintenance. A flexible approach to working arrangements is essential.
Responsibilities
- Maintain user accounts and access rights to the ICE Desktop Order Communications system.
- Maintain test and location library within ICE Desktop to ensure parity with the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Manage merge maintenance of records on the ICE Desktop solution.
- Deliver ICE Desktop system training and induction sessions to junior doctors or individual users as required.
- Prepare and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the ICE Desktop solution in line with service standards.
- Plan and deploy the ICE Desktop solution across all pathology service users.
- Continually develop and enhance the ICE suite of modules.
- Test software release patches in a test environment prior to live deployment.
- Act as primary contact for telephone and general enquiries relating to the ICE Desktop solution and resolve problems with users, via phone or direct contact; produce and maintain user guide documentation.
- Occasionally work offsite at GP surgeries or other Trusts; travel to other parts of the UK may be required for training or testing.
Communication
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to interact with NHS staff at all levels and across multi-agency boundaries. You will discuss system issues with suppliers and users, negotiate user requirements for amendments and enhancements, and present training workshops as needed. Provide progress updates and ensure open communication with a range of organisations and individuals.

Person Specification
- Education: Degree or equivalent experience; demonstrated ongoing personal development.
- Experience: Working knowledge of ICE, Careflow, EMIS or Nervecentre; experience delivering system training; experience in an administrative or IT operational role; experience in a helpdesk environment.
- Desirable: Ability to develop and deliver training programmes to all staff levels.
- Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to follow procedures; strong analytical and numerical skills; ability to work to deadlines.
- Knowledge: Understanding of customer services and SLAs; information governance and confidentiality; system administration procedures (user setup, password administration, parameters, security); extensive IT knowledge.
