The General Manager is responsible for the overall management of personnel, project delivery, operational performance, and budget control across BAE Portsmouth Naval Base projects. The role ensures projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with client specifications, company procedures, and business objectives, while maintaining strong client relationships and delivering exceptional customer service to support contract retention and growth.

• Establish and maintain effective project systems, processes, and procedures in line with the Company Integrated Management System (DMS).
• Provide leadership across all project phases, ensuring safety, quality, environmental compliance, and operational excellence remain top priorities.
• Promote a consistent and standardised approach to managing all Portsmouth-based projects and disciplines.
• Ensure effective communication of project performance, priorities, and daily activities across all management teams.

Project Planning & Delivery

• Plan and programme project work scopes to ensure successful and timely delivery.
• Oversee procurement, material reconciliation, and resource allocation to maximise value and minimise delays.
• Monitor project budgets, target costs, forecasts, and commercial performance in collaboration with the Commercial Manager.
• Produce and review progress reports, cost updates, risk registers, and work scope forecasts for senior management.
• Oversee the management and delivery of all work packages in accordance with project plans, specifications, and purchase orders.
• Manage project risks, opportunities, and stakeholder communications, including liaison with clients and project partners.
• Ensure timely management of both temporary and permanent design requirements.

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality

• Allocate HSEQ responsibilities, verify competency, and ensure appropriate training is provided.
• Conduct senior management site inspections and ensure all HSE documentation, audits, and reports remain current and effective.
• Ensure Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), Method Statements, and quality hold points are developed, communicated, and implemented.
• Ensure full compliance with project specifications, client requirements, and quality standards across all disciplines.

The General Manager reports directly to the Director and is accountable for the safe, commercial, and operational performance of all assigned projects, ensuring successful delivery in line with company objectives and client expectations. The candidate should ideally be within close proximity to Portsmouth although we would consider a travelling employee.
