Purpose of the Role
The HSE Manager will support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) standards across a fast-paced warehousing and logistics operation.
The role is responsible for ensuring legal compliance, reducing risk, promoting a positive safety culture, and supporting operational teams to work safely and sustainably.
- Key Accountabilities
- Provide practical HSE advice and guidance to managers, supervisors, and employees.
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits, risk assessments, and ensure effective safe systems of work are in place.
- Support environmental management, including waste, spill prevention, energy efficiency, and environmental compliance.
- Monitor compliance with UK HSE legislation, company policies, and industry best practice.
- Develop, review, and implement risk assessments, policies, procedures, and safe working practices.
- Lead or support accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Monitor HSE performance, analyse trends, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Deliver HSE training, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns to promote employee engagement and a positive safety culture.
- Maintain accurate HSE records, including training, risk assessments, inspections, and incident data.
- Support emergency planning, fire safety, contractor management, and liaise with regulators and key stakeholders where required.

- Reduction in incidents, repeat safety failures, damage, waste, and operational losses.
- Improved safety engagement, reporting culture, audit performance, and legal compliance.

Skills & Experience
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).
- Experience within warehousing, logistics, or distribution.
- Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and risk management.
- Experience investigating incidents, conducting audits, and delivering HSE training.
- Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Desirable: IOSH membership, Fire Safety or Environmental qualification, Internal Auditor qualification, and experience with FLT or other high-risk warehouse operations.
