Know Your Numbers

As a Finance Manager, you’ll need to demonstrate your technical accounting skills. Brush up on key financial metrics and be ready to discuss how you've used them to drive performance in previous roles. This shows you’re not just about the theory but can apply it practically.

Showcase Your Leadership Style

Since the role involves leading and mentoring a team, prepare examples of how you've successfully managed teams in the past. Think about specific challenges you faced and how you supported your team through them. This will highlight your leadership qualities and collaborative spirit.

Communicate with Confidence

You’ll be working with non-financial stakeholders, so practice explaining complex financial concepts in simple terms. Use relatable examples to show that you can bridge the gap between finance and other departments. This will demonstrate your communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Prepare for Compliance Questions

Given the importance of VAT, HMRC reporting, and financial controls, expect questions around compliance. Familiarise yourself with recent changes in regulations and be ready to discuss how you’ve ensured compliance in your previous roles. This will show your commitment to ethical practices and attention to detail.
