💡 About us

Demokratik UK & Eire (@demokratik.uke on IG) is a progressive, student-led organisation founded to ignite and foster intellectual discourse amongst Malaysian university students studying in the UK. We run student-led forums, debates, and speaker events on issues that matter to Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Recent work includes campus speaker proposals, cross-society collaborations, and debate-style events that build real public-engagement skills. DMK has hosted a range of speakers and forums, including Clare Rewcastle Brown, the British investigative journalist who exposed the 1MDB scandal; Jalil Rasheed, the youngest CEO of Malaysia’s largest fund management firm, PNB; alongside Malaysian youth activists on topics like women’s sexual and reproductive health and political advocacy.

In recent years, we’ve broadened our conversation to include issues concerning our friends and peers from all across Southeast Asia. Historically, Southeast Asians possess a common and shared experience of colonial struggles whose long-term impacts continue to shape our lives today. As the world becomes more interconnected through globalisation, and as cross-border migration, trade, and cultural exchange continue to sprout, DMK believes it is the right time to bring together the bright minds from across the region to foster critical discourse about the future of ASEAN.
