Democracy is the fastest-growing PR agency outside London – and we are looking for an ambitious, commercially minded Account Director to help lead our next phase of growth. This is a senior role with real influence. You will work on high-profile, reputation-shaping briefs across energy, pharma and education, partnering closely with clients who expect strategic thinking and bold ideas. Alongside this, you will play an active role in new business, helping grow our footprint in both Manchester and London.

You won’t be doing everything alone. Each account is supported by strong Account Managers and Senior Account Managers, plus ambitious junior talent eager to deliver against your vision. Your role is to set the direction, inspire the team, and ensure exceptional work is delivered every time.

As Account Director, you will be responsible for leading client relationships, shaping strategy, and ensuring our work delivers real impact. You will bring clarity, creativity and commercial thinking to everything you do.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building, maintaining and growing senior client relationships
  • Identifying client needs, ambitions and challenges, and developing creative, effective solutions
  • Providing clear strategic direction and counsel to clients and internal teams
  • Translating client objectives into actionable plans and driving timely delivery
  • Leading and developing account teams through line management
  • Contributing to new business pitches and agency growth

About you

You are curious, ideas-driven and commercially astute. You enjoy solving complex problems, spotting opportunities, and helping clients and teams succeed. You will ideally have:

  • 6+ years’ experience in PR or communications
  • A proven track record of growing accounts and building trusted client relationships
