We are looking for someone with very good knowledge of casting and injection molding, FEA / FEM simulation, leadership in design projects, and good knowledge in electronic and hardware.
Company Overview: We are recruiting a Lead Mechanical Engineer in Luxembourg on behalf of a European UAV manufacturer specializing in the design, development, and production of advanced unmanned aerial systems for professional and institutional applications. The company develops complete UAV platforms in-house, combining airframes, embedded electronics, payload integration, and mission-critical subsystems, with a strong focus on performance, reliability, and operational robustness.
Salary: 80,000€ to 100,000€
Role Overview: The engineering position is focused on designing enclosures, protection, and thermal management elements for electronics boards alongside airframes, wing constructions, mechanisation, folding mechanisms, gimbals, etc. for UAVs. We are looking for someone who has a good understanding of electronic and hardware integration in the designs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Creating and optimizing mechanical designs for parts and assemblies of UAVs and related systems.
- Modifying and improving existing designs to meet new or changed technical requirements.
- Generating drafts, detailed and DFM documents including specifications, engineering drawings, and other technical documentation.
- Performing analyses to validate designs and ensure they meet performance and appropriate standards.
- Prototyping and validating the mechanical design.
- Cooperating with engineers of other specialities to meet the project’s requirements and solve multidisciplinary trade-offs.
- Keeping the project models and documentation in traceable order.
- Providing technical support to the manufacturing and testing processes.
- You will create and lead a team of 2/3 engineers within 1 year.
Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, with coursework in strength theory, theoretical mechanics, material science, metrology, technology of mechanical parts and assemblies production such as machining, molding, press fit, welding, gluing, etc.
- At least 5 years of experience in designing mechanical parts and assemblies in aerospace or instrument engineering sectors.
- Proficiency in Solidworks is required. Proficiency in other CADs is advantageous.
- Experience in participating in multidisciplinary projects which include cabling, motors, moving parts, power and mixed-signal electronics, antennas, optics.
- Strong knowledge of technical requirements and methods for PCB arrangement and cable management.
- Knowledge in principles and methodologies of thermal management and protection against harsh environments and vibration of electronic devices.
- Knowledge in control theory (closed loop systems and PID controllers) is advantageous.
- Knowledge and experience in the field of aerodynamics is advantageous.
