Associate Practitioner wanted – Freelance Dementia Group Facilitator
Location: Birmingham, face to face delivery across community venues
Contract: Freelance, self-employed
Commitment: Approximately 18 sessions per year, each lasting two hours, plus agreed preparation and follow up
About us
Dementia Carers Count is a national charity dedicated to supporting people who care for someone living with dementia. We provide specialist information, advice, advocacy, counselling and group support, helping carers feel more confident, better equipped and less alone.
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Freelance Dementia Group Facilitator to deliver face to face education and support sessions for unpaid carers across Birmingham, working in partnership with Age UK Birmingham and Age Concern through Birmingham Carers Hub.
About the role
Our face-to-face groups provide carers with practical dementia education, emotional support and opportunities to connect with others who understand their experiences. They are particularly valuable for carers who may struggle to access online services or who prefer in person support.
You will facilitate groups of approximately 20 carers, providing practical guidance on dementia, particularly dementia associated behaviours, sleep difficulties and everyday challenges. You’ll create a welcoming and inclusive environment, encouraging discussion, peer connection and opportunities for carers to share experiences and strategies.
You’ll deliver DCC’s established group programme, prepare for sessions, provide appropriate resources and contribute to monitoring and evaluating the impact of the groups.
There may also be opportunities to deliver DCC’s accredited Certified and Ready for Dementia training programme, depending on your experience and availability.
Sessions take place at established community venues across Birmingham.
About you
You’ll have excellent knowledge and practical experience of dementia, particularly dementia associated behaviours, alongside the confidence and skills to facilitate groups and support carers.
Ideally, you’ll have a clinical or allied health professional background, such as nursing or occupational therapy, although substantial specialist dementia experience is equally welcome.
You’ll be compassionate, engaging, reliable and committed to providing accurate, evidence informed information and high-quality support.
Working with us
This is a freelance opportunity offering the chance to make a meaningful difference to unpaid carers while working alongside a specialist dementia charity.
You will be expected to maintain appropriate professional standards, insurance and safeguarding requirements, including an appropriate DBS check where required.
We value practitioners who are knowledgeable, compassionate, dependable and committed to delivering high-quality support that reflects DCC’s values and the needs of carers.
Right To Work check required before engaging your services.
We pay £42.75 / hour or £350 / day (based on 8 hours) plus travel and subsistence, excluding VAT.
We’ll keep your CV securely for 3 years, and will use the details you provide to contact you about relevant work opportunities. You can ask us to delete your details at any time. See more about how we’ll use your details in our Privacy Policy
