The Mechanical Lead Engineer manages all engineering activities of a project related to Mechanical Design in order to ensure that relevant deliverables are in time, scope, quality and budget and adhere to established standards. The Mechanical Lead Engineer estimates and manages mechanical engineering-related project risks, owns the related planning and scheduling and acts as the point of contact for mechanical engineering. The Mechanical Lead Engineer functionally reports to the Project Manager in the respective projects or, if appointed, to a Project Lead Engineer. In addition, the role will be involved in the full cycle of the project from sales through engineering up to handover.

Tasks and Qualifications:
General Responsibilities:
- Identify improvements to engineering process and preparing supporting documentation
- Project Readiness
- Supporting Sales team during sales phase by providing technical advice, supporting estimation effort, project schedule creation and understanding of required engineering skill set

Project Management:
- Ensure that we have resources from Mechanical Engineering Team with the right skill set in order to execute the project
- Acting as main Mechanical Engineering point of contact for Project Manager, Site manager, Procurement, Manufacturing as well as client architect, builder and design consultants
- Leading project Mechanical Engineering teams through task allocation and reporting
- Creating and updating Mechanical Engineering project status reports, financial forecasts, and schedule updates (resources updates), ensuring Mechanical Engineering cost control
- Documenting, escalating and managing Mechanical Engineering project risks (also preparation of Project Status Report) / Project Variance Request
- Ensure all project Quality Gates are met for Mechanical Engineering
- Conducting regular on-site safety audits when visiting a site and advising on any special installation requirements; deriving actions
- Identifying and proposing Lean improvements
- Supporting lessons learned sessions and project closing
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to interface directly with Amazon Engineering, Construction, RME and external consultants, representing Dematic as a technical authority.
- High ownership mindset: ability to proactively identify risks, drive mitigation plans, and escalate early in a customer-facing, zero-surprise environment
- Demonstrated ability to work under high delivery pressure, compressed timelines and frequent scope changes, while maintaining engineering quality and cost control
On time, in quality delivery of key deliverables:
- Ensuring that Bill of Materials and project procurement plan for Mechanical Engineering products has been done and ordered
- Checking and approving specifications for purchase items/services
- Ensuring quality of all necessary documentation to execute mechanical installation on site has been provided on time
- Manage Completion of Design Risk Assessment and Safety design validation during mechanical design stage
- Ensuring delivery of key deliverables i.e. basic Layout, 3rd Party specs., List of static and dynamic loads, layout drawings, Hazard assessment
- Ensuring that check list for the mechanical installation has been done and site is ready for next phase which is electrical installation
- Ensuring the correct transmittal of all Mechanical Engineering Deliverables to the Customer i.e. layout drawings
- Ensuring the right technical information has been provided for the Customer Service training
- Ensuring project technical documentation is completed
- Identifying improvements to engineering process and preparing supporting documentation
Skills & Capabilities:
- 5+ years hands on experience working within an industrial automation environment.
- Experience leading project teams on complex projects
- A working understanding of technical manuals & drawings, Mechanical/Electrical
- Working knowledge of ISO standards governing the automated warehouse industry
- Understanding of MS Project, JIRA, Excel and other project management tools
- Ability to make design decisions on a project
- Understand and use relevant design requirements such as the Machinery Directive and its harmonized standards
- Knowledge in Mechanical Conveyor Systems (MCS), with proven capability to challenge designs, validate concepts, and drive technically sound decisions under delivery pressure.
- Strong understanding mechanical standards, design expectations and installation constraints, and ability to translate them into executable engineering solutions.
- Ability to independently manage complex mechanical scopes, coordinate interfaces with Controls, Structures and Installation, and ensure full alignment with Amazon milestones and approval cycles.
Education & Certifications:
- Essential: Degree level of understanding in a technical Engineering discipline.
- Desirable: Understanding / Qualification in Machinery Safety
Travel approx. 15% (depending on the stage of the project) within EMEA will be required as part of the role.
