The Company:
A globally recognised manufacturer of advanced metrology and measurement systems is seeking an R&D Director to lead the development of its next generation of precision technologies. The organisation designs and manufactures highly complex instrumentation used worldwide across sectors including aerospace, semiconductors, optics, automotive, energy, medical devices and advanced industrial R&D. This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of the R&D strategy, guide multi-disciplinary engineering teams and influence the direction of highly sophisticated measurement technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and deliver the R&D strategy and technology roadmap for precision instrumentation systems
- Lead and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams spanning mechanical, electronics, optics, software and systems engineering
- Drive new product development from concept through to commercial launch
- Oversee research activity including feasibility studies, prototyping and early-stage technology development
- Collaborate closely with Product Management, Operations, Quality and Commercial teams to ensure successful product delivery
Key Skills & Experience:
- Degree or postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Physics, Mechatronics, Optics or similar technical discipline
- Senior leadership experience within R&D environments focused on precision engineering, instrumentation or advanced manufacturing
- Track record of delivering complex hardware, instrumentation or measurement systems to market
- Strong technical understanding across mechanical, electronics, software or optical engineering
- Experience managing large engineering teams and complex development programmes
