Product Technical Director

We are seeking an experienced Technical Director to lead our software engineering teams in delivering innovative, high-quality products, with a primary focus on our consumer-facing applications for OTT video streaming.

Consumer applications are a core component within Deltatre’s suite of cutting-edge solutions, designed to enable exceptional user experiences for our clients in the sports, media, and entertainment industries, with media playback via our in-house player and fan experience layer – Diva Player – at their heart.

This role specifically focuses on the core frontend engineering aspects of our consumer applications, distinct from the backend layer managed by a separate Technical Director.

Reporting to the VP of Product and Architecture, the Technical Director will provide technical and line management for engineering squads aligned to our consumer applications and associated media player and fan experience components, ensuring successful delivery, adherence to best practices, and alignment with business goals.

This role requires a strong technical background, exceptional leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams, including Product Managers, Product Owners, Architects, and QA.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

• Define and maintain technical direction for the engineering squads working on consumer applications, ensuring alignment with architectural principles and business objectives.
• Collaborate with architects to design scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions for our applications.
• Drive the creation and evolution of the core frontend platform, supported by the Axis Platform to ensure scalability and performance.
• Drive technical innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering teams.

Delivery Oversight

• Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software that meets or exceeds client and stakeholder expectations.
• Monitor progress and performance of engineering squads, identifying and mitigating risks and bottlenecks.
• Oversee technical roadmaps in collaboration with Product Owners and Architects.
• Ensure the smooth integration of the Diva Player experience within the wider consumer application portfolio.

Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability.
• Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and identify professional growth opportunities for team members.
• Build a strong team dynamic through effective communication and conflict resolution.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Product Owners to define technical requirements and priorities for our consumer applications and ensure alignment with broader Deltatre product strategies.
• Collaborate with QA and Operations teams to ensure robust testing, deployment, and maintenance practices for our applications.
• Partner with other Technical Directors to ensure consistency and alignment across Deltatre’s products and squads.

Governance and Standards

• Ensure engineering squads follow best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines.
• Promote adherence to agile methodologies and DevOps principles.
• Monitor and report on key metrics, including code quality, system performance, and team velocity.

Requirements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 4 years in a leadership or management role.
• Proven experience delivering complex software systems in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong technical expertise in software architecture, design patterns, and modern development frameworks (e.g., React, Swift & SwiftUI, Kotlin, Brightscript), microservices architectures, and cloud-native solutions.
• Solid understanding of Agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with product management principles and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Skills and Competencies

• Technical Proficiency: Strong hands-on experience with programming languages, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), and modern development tools.
• Leadership: Ability to inspire, motivate, and guide engineering teams toward achieving shared goals.
• Problem Solving: Analytical and strategic thinking to address technical and delivery challenges.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts.
• Adaptability: Ability to navigate ambiguity and prioritize in a dynamic, evolving environment.
• Stakeholder Management: Confidence in collaborating with senior leadership, product teams, and clients.

Further Experience

• Proven experience with OTT video streaming technologies and platforms.
• Experience with app store management and release processes across multiple technologies (e.g. Apple App Store, Google Play Store, Roku, Samsung, LG)
• Background in creating and managing scalable and secure software systems.
• Familiarity with Deltatre’s suite of products and their role in enabling high-performance solutions for sports and media clients.
• Experience of common player architectures (ExoPlayer, AVFoundation, Shaka)
• Experience with OTT systems, CMS, or video platforms.
• Background in B2C software development or integration.
• Experience working in a global, distributed team environment.
