Carmarthenshire County Council is seeking an experienced and proactive individual to lead the day-to-day management of its operational depots across the county. This key operational role has direct responsibility for ensuring depots operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with health and safety legislation, statutory requirements and corporate standards. The postholder will play a critical role in maintaining a safe working environment, managing depot facilities and overseeing traffic, fleet and contractor movements.
The successful candidate will provide strong operational leadership, supporting and supervising depot-based staff, ensuring safe systems of work are embedded, and fostering a positive and proactive safety culture. You will oversee depot facilities and property-related matters including maintenance, inspections, housekeeping, security and statutory compliance, while ensuring accurate records and documentation are maintained.
You will also manage contractor access and on-site works, coordinate inspections and audits, support emergency response and business continuity arrangements, and contribute to continuous improvement in depot operations, safety standards and efficiency. This 2-year fixed-term post offers an excellent opportunity to take on a visible and influential operational management role within a large and diverse organisation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing or supervising depot, operational site or similar working environment.
- Applying knowledge of health and safety legislation, risk assessment and safe systems of work.
- Coordinating facilities management, inspections and contractor activity.
- Leading staff, managing performance and maintaining high operational standards.
- Ensuring statutory compliance, maintenance, inspections, housekeeping, security and accurate record-keeping.
- Managing contractor access and on-site works, emergency response, business continuity and continuous improvement.
Essential requirements include:
- Experience managing or supervising a depot, operational site or similar working environment.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation, risk assessment and safe systems of work.
- Experience coordinating facilities management, inspections and contractor activity.
- Proven ability to lead staff, manage performance and maintain high operational standards.
- NEBOSH Certificate (or willingness to achieve), IOSH Managing Safely or equivalent.
- Full driving licence.
