Qualification and Test Engineer – Power conversions products – Location: East Kilbride, Scotland
Our products
At our East Kilbride site, we are responsible for the development of a range of battery chargers used in varied settings including forklift trucks, industrial equipment and innovative warehouse automation systems. We operate in a growing and thriving industry which has a bright future as legacy vehicles move to electrification.
Your profile
This role will involve development of hardware and test programs to be used for automated bench and production test solutions, supporting product development from design through qualification and on to mass production. The successful candidate will have suitable experience in a comparable role, as well as a relevant qualification. For example, a degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering with some programming experience, or a Software Background with practical knowledge of Electronic or Electrical systems. Applications from those with other qualifications and relevant experience will also be welcomed. A willingness to travel would be expected, as you will work closely with colleagues across Europe and beyond, with some travel required for training and product transfers.
Your Challenge
- Develop automated test solutions for use by R&D engineers and production operators
- Effectively engage with local software, hardware and mechanical engineers, plus wider Manufacturing, Final Test and Qualification teams, both locally and outside of the UK
- Support Development of new products, from requirement definition through product verification, qualification and on to mass production ramp
- Take initiative, collaborate and communicate well
- Manage your workload, report progress and show commitment
Your Skills and experience desired, include a mix of:
- A Qualification in Electronic or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- A background in Product Test Engineering or Manufacturing Support role
- Experienced in NI LabView, Python programming or similar, with Test Stand a bonus, as required to automate control of charging systems and test equipment
- An awareness of communications protocols such as CAN/Can-Open, Ethernet & SCPI.
- The ability to read and understand technical documentation plus write protocols and specifications to be shared with other engineers
- Practical knowledge of laboratory equipment such as AC and DC power supplies
- Experience in the measurement of parameters such as voltage and current; using oscilloscopes, DVM’s, Data loggers or similar
- The ability to prepare professional reports, for sharing with colleagues or customers
- Skilled in data analysis, using CPK’s and other statistics, with Six Sigma Certification a bonus
- The ability to work safely with high voltages, as our products may be powered by up to 660Vac input
- Great communication skills and an open attitude to team working is essential as you will work closely with engineers from our software and electrical design teams plus those at our overseas final manufacture and test sites
- Knowledge of Characterisation and Qualification vs Final Test strategies
