As an AI Engineer at Manager level in our Data and AI Studio, you’ll lead the engineering of robust AI-enabled products and help turn ideas and prototypes into secure, scalable solutions. Our Tax and Legal Digital Innovation team is expanding its data and artificial intelligence capabilities. The Data and AI Studio researches, builds and delivers analytics and AI-enabled solutions that improve how we serve clients and operate our business. As a Manager, you’ll help identify valuable opportunities, lead delivery from discovery through to production and contribute to the continued development of our technical capability.

Responsibilities
- Partner with tax, legal, industry and technology specialists to understand client and business needs, define outcomes and translate them into clear technical requirements.
- Lead the design, development, documentation and technical delivery of analytics, automation and AI solutions that improve efficiency, quality and decision-making.
- Establish reliable data foundations by sourcing, preparing and validating structured and unstructured data, while addressing quality, lineage and integrity issues.
- Analyse complex datasets, evaluate solution performance and communicate insights and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Set and promote high engineering standards for maintainable code, testing, documentation, deployment and monitoring across local and cloud environments.
- Shape and assess new AI engineering and automation opportunities, balancing user value, technical feasibility, responsible AI considerations and delivery risk.
- Own the progression of AI and data science solutions from proof of concept to secure, scalable and supportable production services.
- Design, deploy, monitor and troubleshoot application programming interfaces (APIs) and related services, improving reliability and performance over time.
- Provide technical direction, constructive review and coaching to colleagues, while building trusted relationships and contributing to a collaborative, inclusive team.

- Strong software or machine learning engineering experience, including hands-on Python development and sound practices in testing, coding standards, version control and continuous integration and delivery.
- Experience designing, testing and deploying production AI or machine learning solutions using components such as APIs, microservices, model registries, pipelines and cloud services.
- Practical experience developing applications using large language models, including approaches such as embeddings, semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation and model adaptation.
- Proficiency with a modern machine learning and application engineering toolkit; experience may include PyTorch, MLflow, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy or comparable technologies.
- Experience acquiring and processing data from structured, unstructured and web-based sources using appropriate tools and methods.
- Experience delivering solutions on Microsoft Azure, including relevant data, AI, integration and deployment services.
- Current knowledge of AI engineering developments and the judgement to evaluate where emerging techniques can be applied responsibly and effectively.
- Experience leading end-to-end technical delivery, from discovery and proof of concept through to production, including stakeholder management, planning and risk management.
- Experience deploying and operating generative AI or machine learning models in production, with an understanding of data engineering, machine learning operations and large language model operations lifecycles.
- Machine learning and large language model services from other cloud providers, or orchestration frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.
- Document and image analysis services, including tools for extracting, interpreting and structuring content.
- Agent-based AI architectures and interoperability protocols.
- Building Azure-native retrieval-augmented generation and vector search solutions.
- Relevant cloud, data or AI certifications, such as Microsoft Azure AI Engineer Associate or Azure Data Scientist Associate.

Our comprehensive range of services encompasses everything from the completion of tax returns (corporation tax self-assessment) to complex consultancy assignments and strategic tax planning. We advise on corporate and general tax, international M&A, stamp tax, cross-border transfer pricing, reorganisations and reconstructions, and competent authority negotiations.
Personal independence
