We’re looking for a Universal Underwriter (Operations) tojoin a leading UK financial services organisation, supporting its retailbanking customers and playing a key role in responsible lending decisions.

This is an excellent opportunity to use your existingunderwriting and credit experience while developing your skills across abroader range of products, customers and business areas.

The role

As a Universal Underwriter, you’ll be responsible forassessing customers’ financial circumstances when they apply for lendingfacilities and making well-reasoned, responsible and evidence-based creditdecisions.

You’ll also work closely with colleagues across the businessto improve the customer journey, manage risk and ensure customers receiveappropriate outcomes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assessing customer financial circumstances andlending applications
  • Making responsible credit and lending decisionsin line with agreed lending standards
  • Identifying potential fraud and helping minimiselosses and bad debt
  • Ensuring all policies, procedures and internalcontrols are followed
  • Providing guidance and feedback to relatedbusiness areas
  • Supporting continuous improvement across thecustomer journey
  • Reviewing policies and procedures and makingevidence-based recommendations for change
  • Working towards customer satisfaction, revenueand cost-containment objectives
  • Ensuring relevant regulatory requirements areunderstood and applied
  • Contributing to strong team performance andpositive customer outcomes

What we’re looking for

  • Experience assessing lending applications andmaking credit decisions
  • A good understanding of responsible lending andcredit risk principles
  • Experience identifying fraud, risk and potentialfinancial losses
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A customer-focused approach
  • The confidence to challenge processes andidentify opportunities for improvement
  • Strong communication and stakeholder managementskills
  • An understanding of the wider UK financialservices and retail banking environment
