Deloitte’s market-leading Indirect Tax practice has grown rapidly over the last five years. To continue that growth, Deloitte is looking for high calibre resource at the Associate Director grade. Our national Indirect Tax practice is regarded within Deloitte as one of the leading and most successful service lines – with a reputation for being proactive, entrepreneurial, successful, and fun to work with. The Indirect Tax group works with clients across a number of industries including Financial Services, Real Estate, Public Sector, Consumer Business, Energy and Technology, Global Trade Advisory, and Media and Telecoms. We work with the largest and most influential clients across these industries – providing both advisory and compliance Indirect Tax services. Applicants can either focus and work within a specific industry, or if they prefer, work across a range of industries.

Working in the Indirect Tax team you will get exposure to a variety of projects including multi-million pound property transactions, international supply chain structuring, corporate transactions, and advising on the impact of topical developments such as e-invoicing and Digital VAT Reporting. The work can be varied between advisory and compliance, and in line with client’s operations, is often global in nature and provides the chance to broaden knowledge and interact with Deloitte’s global network regularly.

Your skill set will be enhanced with us, and as an Associate Director, you will be given the autonomy to establish your own client contacts and build your own business and relationships. Whilst autonomy is encouraged, the Director and Partner team will always be available when you need support and advice.

You will have responsibility for:

  • Acting as a member of our leadership team – developing and leading engagement teams in order to deliver high quality Indirect Tax advice for our largest and most influential clients;
  • Managing teams to undertake research on Indirect Tax technical matters and being able to deliver and provide pragmatic advice to our clients;
  • Leading calls with clients and acting as the main point of contact – reporting directly to Directors and Partners;
  • Keeping abreast of Indirect Tax updates and how this can be used to grow our business as a senior leader within our team;
  • Developing and maintaining client and internal relationships;
  • Having a good understanding of digital initiatives such as the use of AI, e-invoicing, and Digital VAT reporting that will impact our clients;
  • Developing new market opportunities and leading on these for the practice – we will give you the tools and support to act as an entrepreneur to help continue grow our business;
  • Managing our Consultant and Analyst cohort and ensuring that you are living Deloitte’s values;
  • Working closely with colleagues in other parts of the firm;
  • As an Associate Director, working well within a team – both to support our more junior grades, but also working directly with Directors and Partners.

To qualify for the role, you should have:

  • Proven years of VAT experience either in practice, industry, or within HMRC;
  • A strong understanding of UK VAT legislation and interpretation of case law;
  • A proven track record in delivering complex advisory work and leading client engagements;
  • Experience in managing a diverse team;
  • Preferably ATT/CTA qualified (or holding an equivalent qualification);
  • Strong written and technical work;
  • Excellent client facing, relationship building, and business development skills;
  • The ability to be proactive, identify opportunities, and take ownership of client accounts;
  • Experience of reporting to senior management – both within practice and for clients.
