Our Employment Taxes practice supports clients with managing employment taxes risks, compliance obligations and strategy, whilst also identifying opportunities to add value to their organisation and people. Our practice continues to operate in a period of unprecedented legislative change, which presents an exciting environment to advise clients and identify new opportunities. Associate Directors lead our client engagements, taking ownership of their client contacts. As an Associate Director, you will use your commercial awareness and professional expertise, along with leveraging the skills and expertise of others, to deliver the best possible experience and outcomes for our clients. You will own and manage client relationships and be expected to proactively identify innovative solutions for your clients and pursue new business development opportunities by utilising your networks and market knowledge.
You will be willing to work with and develop junior team members and enjoy sharing your knowledge and expertise with others. Your desire to work as part of a team is critical to the role.
As an Associate Director, you will have responsibility for:
- Maintaining and building a client portfolio to support the continued growth of the business;
- Developing your network of contacts internally and externally and leading bids and proposals for new work;
- Owning the relationship with client senior management;
- Assisting senior members of the team with both client work and in the management of the group;
- Maintaining an in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of taxation and specialist knowledge to deal with complex tax issues;
- Advising on the tax treatment of employee remuneration, such as salary, benefits and expenses, as well as advising on off-payroll workers, HMRC disputes and supporting clients with managing their fair pay responsibilities (NMW and holiday pay);
- Assisting clients with identifying employment taxes matters that could impact the success of corporate transactions (e.g. supporting with due diligences);
- Leveraging the broader team to deliver high-quality work;
- Working and managing effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution and not their presence, and made to feel comfortable to bring their true self to work.
A successful applicant will possess many of the following key skills and attributes:
- A strong understanding of current employment taxes legislation, being fully qualified at ATT / CTA / equivalent;
- Ability to analyse and apply current and new legislation to specific client scenarios;
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral;
- Ability to plan and prioritise workload, meet deadlines and work well under pressure;
- Strong client engagement and management experience with the ability to develop new business;
- Strong business acumen and commercial awareness;
- Employee management experience;
- Ability to adapt to changes in the external environment rapidly and to respond to clients appropriately in this context;
- A team player first and foremost, with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels.
