Organisations today are faced with an increasingly complex global talent landscape. The workforce is more agile, diversified and ‘on demand’, leading organisations to re-evaluate their talent models and how they deploy teams globally. We are offering a unique opportunity to join our team and work with Deloitte leaders to develop insights, build experience and truly add value to our client base. This successful team provides ample room for career development and progression.

Deloitte drives progress. Using our vast range of expertise, we help our clients become leaders wherever they choose to compete. To do this, we invest in outstanding people. We build teams of future thinkers, with diverse talents and backgrounds, and empower them all to reach for and achieve more. What brings us all together at Deloitte? It’s how we approach the thousands of decisions we make every day. How we behave, our beliefs and our attitudes. In other words: our values. Wherever we are in the world, we lead the way, serve with integrity, take care of each other, foster inclusion, and collaborate for measurable impact. These five shared values lead every decision we make and action we take, guiding us to deliver impact how and where it matters most.

We are the market leading team in the professional practices space, advising the majority of the top UK headquartered and US inbound law firms alongside a growing number of non-law firm professional practices (e.g. consultancy businesses, architects etc). We focus on building long-lasting relationships with the most influential professional practices, advising them on all of their tax affairs. The demand for our specialist knowledge within this sector means that we have immediate need to expand our London team at the Associate Director level, with opportunity for progression. We are specifically seeking candidates who have a passion for the professional practices sector and want to become part of a market leading team.

You will become part of a supportive, dynamic and successful team. With our expanding client base and diverse tax services Deloitte provides to this industry, you will contribute to the firm's growth in this market. The role will offer plenty of development opportunities as well as the chance to learn from and work with the market leaders. We take your development very seriously and pride ourselves in having an open culture and having fun, including a regular programme of team social events. We are proud to offer flexible working arrangements which allow our people to choose the most suitable working arrangement that works for them. Whether this is working 4 days per week, or more flexibility around your working pattern, we consider both formal and informal working arrangements that allow our people and our clients the best outcome. If you would like to hear more about our flexible working arrangements, please let us know.

You will have responsibility for providing technical advice across a wide range of projects including international expansion and restructuring, transatlantic structures, mergers and acquisitions, tax governance and control, finance/tax technology transformations, and a broad range of domestic and international tax issues relevant to the professional practices sector (e.g. salaried members and mixed members legislation, international remote workers, permanent establishment queries). You will also have responsibility for managing the year-end tax processes for the largest UK headquartered and US inbound law firms, giving you invaluable insight into the heart of our client’s operations. We work within a wider team of subject matter experts across our Global Employer Services, VAT, Tax Depreciation and Transfer Pricing practices, and you will be encouraged to co-ordinate tax advice across our specialist teams and have knowledge of key issues across other taxes. We also lead the client relationships across our international network by supporting and coordinating services from multiple Deloitte locations. Your role will be diverse and challenging, and you will take the lead on delivering our client services and developing client relationships, as well as playing an active part in building new relationships and winning work. You will be a confident team player and enjoy sharing your knowledge and expertise with others, as well as continuing to build your own technical expertise or specialism. Your responsibilities will include building and managing diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognized for their contribution. As part of your role, you will receive continuous on the job training, including direct interaction with the partners and directors in our team, as well as extensive opportunities to interact with our clients and targets. You will have people management responsibilities, including developing junior members of the team and may act as a coach for more junior members of the team.

Successful candidates will have:

  • UK corporate or personal tax experience gained within a practice firm, a legal firm or industry
  • Experience of working with professional practice partnerships, or experience of working with private businesses and a strong interest in advising professional practice clients
  • Strong technical skills across broad range of corporate/individual tax areas
  • Experience of owning a portfolio of clients and the ability to form and maintain strong client relationships
  • Strong people/leadership skills and experience of developing others
  • Commercial awareness and the desire to understand your clients' businesses
  • Looking for long term career in practice with opportunity to progress

Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your 'Immediate Family Members' are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm). The recruitment team will provide further detail as you progress through the recruitment process or you can contact the Independence team upon request.

Are you looking to return to the workplace after an extended career break? For this role we can offer coaching and support designed for returners to refresh your knowledge and skills and help your transition back into the workplace after a career break of two years or more. If this is relevant for you, just let your recruiter know when you make your application.
