Overview of the role:
- Assemble control panels and control systems to meet the clients’ requirements for functionality and quality.
- Skilled in reading schematic drawings to assemble wiring, switches, cables, and other mechanical or electrical pieces.
- Work on electrical and mechanical components that are designed as a power point for operating electronic or technological equipment.
- Work with electrical engineers in problem-solving solutions as it relates to the assembly process and the functioning of the panels and components.
- Install the completed product, or panel, on a client's site.
Key responsibilities:
- Work as part of a project team with specific duties of assembly and debugging on special purpose industrial automation and robotic assembly systems.
- Assemble, wire and test control panels and machine wiring to detailed electrical schematic diagrams.
- Assist in the production of technical files and Lifetime records.
- Carry out full testing including witness testing of control panel.
- Produce red pen mark-up drawings and using AutoCAD produce as-built drawings.
- Communicate with Project Engineers / Managers regarding any related requirements or changes which require action.
- Produce Bill of Materials and produce quotations.
- Ensure calibrations are successfully carried out.
- Carry out and maintain workshop equipment inspections.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
- Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
- Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications.
- Provide preliminary sketches and cost estimates for materials and services.
What you’ll bring:
- Time served electrical technician with C&G qualifications or equivalent.
- Qualified to HNC/HND level in a relevant electrical discipline.
- Ability to assemble, wire, crimp and test control panels.
- Ability to facilitate witness testing.
- Ability to safely install control panels and systems.
- Ideally with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a relevant environment.
- Knowledge of electrical/electronic systems.
- 17th Edition - City and Guilds Qualification 2382-12.
- Proficiency with Swagelock products.
Nice to have:
- PLC knowledge would be a benefit but is not essential.
- IOSH preferred.
