Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct safety analyses of software elements for vehicle control system within an incrementally delivered software product scope.
  • Production of hazard analysis and safety assessment documentation.
  • Maintain hazard / safety assessment logs and produce associated documentation.
  • Provision of safety advice to software developers with respect to software functional design.
  • Provision of safety advice to management team and other stakeholders with respect to software / hardware integration.
  • Supporting software developers through the safety process.
  • Interaction with and influence of the 'computing solution' developers as to safety constraints and prospective management strategies.
  • Interaction with and influence of whole product safety management practitioners / wider product team as to safety constraints and prospective management strategies.
  • Providing continuous improvement feedback into the safety team.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Chartered Engineer or suitable level of experience to achieve this.
  • Practitioner level safety engineering experience in Aerospace / Nuclear / Defence domains.
  • Ability to work at whole product, system, subsystem, component and sub-component (eg: hardware/software) levels considering integration and interaction issues between and within these levels.
  • Comfortable working with multiple stakeholders within a complex project.
  • Comfortable working in a rapidly evolving environment (in terms of scope, processes and delivery).
  • Self-starting, able to work alone or within a team, providing appropriate levels of leadership as necessary.
  • Well versed with safety management processes and common analysis techniques – intrinsic and common cause.
  • Experience in Model Based System Engineering and System Engineering workflows.
  • Experience with civil standards for development of programmable electronic systems (eg: IEC 61508).
  • Experience with civil standards for system development in the Aerospace or Nuclear domain (e.g: ARP4754/ARP4761 or IEC61511).
  • Experience with high level UK defence safety management standards (e.g.: Def-Stan 00-055, Def-Stan 00-056) including their relationship to UK safety law – criminal and civil aspects.
  • Experience with complex distributed electronic control systems and/or inter-related safety systems within a multi-hazard environment.
  • An appreciation of Agile programme management practices.
