Covered Bond Editor

GlobalCapital, the capital markets news and data service, is looking for a senior journalist to run its covered bond coverage and be a leading figure in the newsroom. The successful candidate will be responsible for covering a core market for the publication, and for being a totemic figure within that market. The job is based in GlobalCapital’s London office, with the requirement that the candidate works two days a week in the office, including Wednesdays. International travel will be required.

Responsibilities

Direct and produce GlobalCapital’s coverage of the international covered bond market. This will be mostly in the form of written news, analysis, data and opinion but will also include speaking at events — both ours and those organised by others — on podcasts, video and other formats

Deliver scoops and cover the most important new issues and market themes by cultivating and speaking to a broad range of expert sources

Produce coverage that delivers value to all covered bond market professionals, demonstrating careful thought about what information they prize, and how best to deliver it in a timely fashion.

Be the face of GC in the covered bond market, maintaining a high public profile with key industry figures and online

Build close, professional relationships with bankers, traders, investors, issuers, industry body executives, regulators, analysts and so with the aim of maintaining GlobalCapital’s status within the market and to secure the best sources to drive coverage

Contribute to the publication’s data offering by contributing regular, accurate data from the covered bond market

Take ownership of the editorial aspects of GC’s covered bond awards, for example, researching and deciding which categories to select

Work closely with the Bank Finance Desk to provide an issuer’s eye view of bank debt financing markets, providing cover too when as required in the event of staff absences

Help to guide more junior reporters in their coverage of capital markets

Person specification

Several years of bond market experience, either as a practitioner, or a journalist

Competency with Excel and comfort with handling data

Comfort with writing critically about covered bonds to a highly technical level

Takes ownership and thinks critically about GC’s covered bond output — the successful candidate will take responsibility for developing our covered bond market coverage to ensure it delivers value to subscribers, with a view to growing our subscriptions base, unafraid to try new formats or styles of coverage

Works well in a co-operative newsroom, collaborating with colleagues while meeting own deadlines and managing a varied workload

Be a leading figure for junior reporters in the newsroom, helping to instil and reinforce best practice and standards

Willingness to travel in Europe and beyond to develop/maintain relationships and profile

Stickler for accuracy in all things and an eye for presenting content in the best way possible

Must be eligible to work in the UK without visa sponsorship
