Overall Purpose Of Role As a Quality Assistant

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Quality Assistant to join our team at our Head Office in Southall.

As a Quality Assistant, you will support both Warehouse and NPD (New Product Development) functions, ensuring products are safe, legal, and meet or exceed agreed specifications. You will work closely with all areas of the business, playing an important role in maintaining our Quality Management System (QMS) and ensuring ongoing compliance with relevant certifications and standards.

  • Report directly to Technical & Quality Manager

  • External: Suppliers, Service Providers
  • Internal: Operations, Sales, Supply Chain, NPD, Finance

Duties And Responsibilities Of a Quality Assistant

  • Work closely with Operational Teams to share information and best practices to improve standards.
  • Ensure all Quality Management System standards are followed.
  • Perform label verifications and allergen checks.
  • Conduct site GMP and GHP audits according to schedule for bakery and warehouse.
  • Carry out quality checks and document verification for bakery and warehouse operations.
  • Maintain product inspections, laboratory testing, and generate/follow up on POs. Conduct shelf-life validation checks as needed.
  • Complete and record calibration tests on monitoring equipment.
  • Provide training in food safety and quality, including food safety inductions.
  • Generate and close out internal and external non-conformances.
  • Participate in pest control management, non-conformance closure, and document maintenance.
  • Handle administrative duties such as document control, specifications systems, labels, and reporting on topics like plastic tax, palm oil, cocoa, etc.
  • Support investigations of customer complaints.
  • Manage product assessment and laboratory testing schedules.
  • Conduct traceability exercises and manage site traceability schedules.
  • Assist the Technical Manager in preparing sites for third-party audits and closing out non-conformances.
  • Report technical KPIs for monthly and quarterly meetings.
  • Undertake other projects and tasks as assigned by the line manager.
  • Provide cover during team absences and holidays.

Essential Experience And Qualifications/Training Of a Quality Assistant

  • Degree in a food-related subject, HND, or equivalent; Food Safety Level 2, HACCP certification.
  • Experience with HACCP, food safety, and auditing.
  • Previous QA experience in chilled/frozen food production, storage, or distribution environments.
