PURPOSE OF A WAREHOUSE SHIFT MANAGER: You will manage, coach and develop a team of Warehouse Supervisors, Team Leaders, Administrators and Operatives to deliver all operational requirements to plan in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring customer service levels are exceeded. Operational requirements include unloading deliveries, order picking, managing returns and ensuring health & safety remains paramount. Working closely with the Depot Manager you will proactively seek to identify continuous improvement opportunities in all aspects of the warehouse operation.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A WAREHOUSE SHIFT MANAGER:

  • Working proactively in line with business initiatives, goals and ambitions, closely alongside other shift / operational managers within a team approach.
  • Manage the pick shift and ensure all trunks are loaded and dispatched on time.
  • Ensure all Coleshill vehicles are sequence loaded and ready prior to drivers starting in the morning.
  • Manage the operatives and assign duties to ensure all tasks are completed.
  • Be present on the warehouse floor to ensure tasks are being completed effectively and safely.
  • Step in and work with the team where necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Effectively manage and monitor people activities such as attendance levels, timekeeping, holidays, training, performance reviews, inductions and employee relations.
  • Ensure required resource is available to meet demand and volume fluctuations throughout the week.
  • Manage the drivers working at night to ensure all trunks reach their destination on time.
  • Escalate any serious issues to the transport or Ops Management team.
  • Act as first point of contact for the loaders in Heywood.
  • Check in with them at least twice a night to ensure all vehicles will be loaded on time.
  • Train, develop and motivate direct reports to fulfil their responsibilities.
  • Apply continuous improvements on service driven KPIs.
  • Maintain stock integrity by ensuring the team are picking accurately.
  • Work with colleagues to improve training and manage any underperformance.
  • Ensure a positive Health & Safety culture exists within the shift and that all operatives comply with Health and Safety procedures.
  • To ensure that all accidents, incidents and near misses are investigated; recorded and reported ensuring compliance with all company and legal requirements.
  • To ensure all relevant administration work is completed and undertaken within the required time scales.
  • Update pallet trackers and load sheets to ensure accuracy on pallets leaving the building.
  • To solve any problems relating to the Warehouse operational activities, escalating to the warehouse manager any problems that require further investigation.
  • Investigate any problem pallets that arise and conduct a full root cause analysis of how any potential issue may have arisen and report findings to the warehouse manager.
  • To undertake any reasonable request as required by the Business/Company.
  • To work effectively and support the overall depot operation.
  • To offer advice/ ideas on improving any warehouse operational task that you feel may benefit the business.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING OF A WAREHOUSE SHIFT MANAGER:

  • Min 3 years experience in similar management role in food sector or FMCG environment.
  • Demonstrable track record in improving shift operational performance and standards.
  • Demonstrable track record in achieving targets and meeting deadlines.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS OF A WAREHOUSE SHIFT MANAGER:

  • Previous experience of supervising a warehouse operation / team environment.
  • Excellent organisational/Leadership skills.
  • Good communication and organisational skills.
  • Must be computer literate, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Fully aware of current Health and Safety legislation.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Good accuracy to detail.
  • Good time management skills.
