An exciting opportunity has arisen for a District Sales Manager to join our team, being responsible for the development of our dealer partners in the north of England and Scotland. You will work as part of a local team to build and execute short term and longer-term strategies using the centralised vision, mission, and values along with the DeLaval code of conduct to make forward thinking decisions for the betterment of DeLaval and the dealerships they are responsible for.

You will specialise in the Aftermarket and Service side of the business and take the lead in generating and driving business in this portfolio with responsibility of managing and developing DeLaval’s direct service area in the north of England, taking three service technicians as direct reports. You are empowered and in turn will empower your dealers, ensuring they have all the information, training, and incentives that they need to sell responsibly and sustainably.

As a DSM you must adapt to the business environment and the dealer or customer in front of them. You will manage ongoing business while finding creative ways to generate new business in order to keep the pipeline full for the future. Networking within the industry to further understand the market needs while strengthening DeLaval’s presence, always being mindful of threats and open to opportunities that allow the DeLaval business to expand in the most effective way. Some national and international travel will be necessary for trainings and meetings. You will report directly to the Country Commercial Manager for Great Britain.

Responsibilities:

  • Maximise sales & profitability of DeLaval products in your geographical area through a dealer network.
  • Be the gatekeeper of DeLaval standards, behaviours, values, and procedures.
  • Ensure dealers are aligned with DeLaval’s way of working.
  • Be visible within the industry.
  • Create ways to generate new leads.
  • Listen to and act on customers’ needs with marketing initiatives in line with DeLaval’s vision.
  • Understand the commercial side of both DeLaval’s and the dealer’s business.
  • Work alongside and sometimes as part of other teams to help dealers and DeLaval achieve and exceed goals and targets.
  • Use structured monthly meetings with dealers to be proactive rather than reactive.
  • Promote and develop dealer competence, confidence, and presence.
  • Ensure that dealers are provided with all the necessary product information, training, and pricing of DeLaval Products.
  • Work with dealers to formulate strategies to sustainably expand DeLaval’s market share.
  • Audit all aspect of our dealers and arrange trainings or implement supports to bring them up to standard.
  • Support dealers with your expertise on sales calls where necessary.
  • Control discount rates within the product area parameters.

Experience and knowledge:

  • Sales and account management experience.
  • Financial and commercial awareness.
  • Adaptable people skills covering, but not limited to, influencing, motivating, understanding body language, coaching, negotiating and relationship building.
  • Fluent in English with good communication skills at all levels, demonstrating excellent verbal, written and strong IT skills.
  • A willingness to learn.
  • Valid drivers licence.
