This is a senior role, the first of its kind within the organisation and will live within a centralised Data and Analytics team. We are looking for someone that is solely motivated by commercial output.
We’re working with a global brand, think thousands of physical stores, distribution centres and vans on the road. Operating at significant scale, the business has a wealth of data at its fingertips. Now, we’re looking for a commercially minded analyst who can turn that data into decisions that make a genuine difference.
Joining the BI & Analytics team, you’ll work at the intersection of data and commercial strategy, partnering with teams across Commercial, Pricing, Marketing and eCommerce to answer the questions that matter most. This isn’t a role where you sit back and wait for someone to send you a brief. It’s about spotting opportunities, challenging assumptions and getting under the skin of the numbers to uncover what’s really happening, why it’s happening and what the business should do next.
Powered by a powerful Data Engineering and Data Science function, this will be suited to someone operating at, or close to a Senior level.
What will you be doing?
- Uncovering commercial opportunities: Proactively identifying the biggest questions, challenges and growth opportunities across the business, then leading the analysis to answer them.
- Influencing commercial strategy: Working closely with Commercial, Pricing, Marketing and eCommerce to understand their objectives and help shape better decisions.
- Measuring what really works: Evaluating campaigns, promotions and pricing changes to separate genuine incremental growth from what would have happened anyway.
- Understanding customer behaviour: Analysing customer journeys and segments to identify missed opportunities, barriers to conversion and ways to improve retention.
- Testing and learning: Supporting the design and evaluation of experiments, trials and test-and-control comparisons to establish what delivers the best results.
- Building the business case: Creating straightforward forecasts and commercial models to support investment decisions, including marketing and media spend.
- Making data meaningful: Presenting your findings in plain English, translating complex analysis into recommendations that stakeholders can understand and act upon.
- Collaborating across data: Working alongside BI, Data Science and Data Engineering to ensure your work is consistent, robust and built on a trusted version of the truth.
What are we looking for?
We’re interested in someone who combines strong analytical capability with commercial curiosity and the confidence to influence people. You might already be a Commercial Analytics Manager, Commercial Analyst, Data Analyst, Customer Analyst or Marketing Analyst. Your job title matters less than your ability to get to the bottom of a problem and demonstrate how your work has made a difference.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Proven experience in a hands-on data analytics role, preferably within retail, wholesale, eCommerce or another commercially focused environment.
- Strong SQL and Excel skills, alongside experience using a BI platform such as Power BI.
- A solid understanding of analytical techniques, including trend analysis, test-and-control comparisons and basic forecasting.
- Commercial awareness, with an understanding of how pricing, margin, promotions and customer behaviour influence business performance.
- Examples of analysis you’ve led that influenced a decision, improved performance or delivered measurable value.
- The ability to communicate complex findings clearly and confidently, adapting your approach to different audiences.
- The initiative to take ownership, challenge conventional thinking and pursue opportunities without needing a perfectly defined brief.
We’re not looking for a technical data scientist. You won’t be building machine learning models. Instead, you’ll focus on the analytical thinking that bridges business intelligence and data science: understanding what the numbers mean and translating that understanding into action.
