The role

Deimos Space UK is looking for a Space Situational Awareness Team Lead to join the Space Situational Awareness (SSA) team in Oxford. The team works on a range of projects across the SSA domain, from sensor development to tracking and characterisation of space objects, collision risk assessment and mitigation strategy development.

We are looking for someone who can provide technical leadership and management of the people and activities of the UK team (currently three people but expected to grow) and contribute to the wider activities of the transnational team. For the right candidate, this is an opportunity to make a real difference supporting a safe and sustainable future for space.

This role is based in Oxford, Harwell.

As a key member of the UK team, you will be responsible for space safety projects crossing the entire SSA chain. The successful candidate will work locally with the UK team and will have technical support from the wider international team.

Core activities:

  • People. Technical development and resource allocation responsible
  • Projects. Technical leadership, providing support to national & international projects.
  • Process. Responsible for championing and driving operational processing for

Other activities:

  • Support to project management, including client & subcontractor relations
  • Preparation support and review of project development plans.
  • Technical support for SSA proposals.
  • Interaction with clients, and the wider SSA community.
  • Contribution to commercial and marketing activities.
  • Mentorship of junior team members.
  • Documentation Review in support of project milestones.
  • Support to proposal preparation organisation.
  • Support of training activities within the SSA division and across divisions.
  • Travel to conferences to represent the company.

What we are looking for:

As the successful candidate you will have an MSc (or higher) in Aerospace Engineering (or similar). We are particularly interested in receiving your application if you have experience in any of the following areas:

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, project management and business operations
  • Experience working on collaborative, international industrial projects
  • Required:
  • Knowledge of SSA domain in particular, sensor technology and data processing, Space environment modelling and collision risk assessment
  • Knowledge of the use of AI and machine learning in the space domain
  • Knowledge of ESA procedures and guidelines
  • Knowledge of verification and validation procedures
  • Knowledge of software development tools (e.g., bitbucket, git, SonarQube)
  • CI/CD using Gitlab Framework or Atlassian Ecosystem
  • 25 days holiday + 3 days over holiday period + 8 bank holidays
  • 40 hours a week
