Our client, a leader in the Defence & Aerospace sector, is currently seeking a Systems Engineer to join their team on a contract basis. This role is central to the technical leadership and governance of a multi-disciplined engineering Integrated Project Team (IPT). With a passion for Engineering and Technology, you will be committed to all stages of the design and development lifecycle, from capturing requirements to product design certification and service release. Working closely with the Head of Systems Engineering, this position will suit a senior engineer looking to diversify their experience and work within both Systems Engineering and IPT leadership teams to deliver optimised design solutions for release systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and motivate the Integrated Project Team Engineers in line with project deliverables and the development process
- Partner with IPT Project Manager on estimates, forecast, status, and risks
- Direct design and development tasks with IPT Engineers to enable delivery within agreed timescales and budgets
- Act as the primary technical focal point for IPT, interacting with internal and external customers at a senior technical level
- Prepare and deliver Design Reviews
- Provide expert input for Change Review and Failure Review Boards
- Analyse technical requirements to monitor design Technical Performance Measures
- Manage the definition and delivery of Certificate of Design/Declaration of Design and Performance
- Provide regular reporting and KPI status to the Product Group Lead Engineer
Experience & Skills:
Essential
- Experience in an aerospace domain operating at a senior level, leading engineering teams to deliver optimised design solutions
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering or equivalent higher engineering qualifications plus experience
- Proven experience in managing engineering teams to deliver projects according to customer and regulatory requirements within timescales and budgets
- Significant detail design experience with dynamic, gas and electro-mechanical systems
- Deep understanding of the Systems Engineering development lifecycle process (Requirements, Systems Design, Verification and Validation)
- Strong communication skills, focusing on technical leadership for complex design and development projects
- Ability to identify and solve problems promptly to drive compliant design solutions
- Comprehensive understanding of the process for equipment Certificate of Design release according to DAOS and MAA regulatory requirements
Desirable
- Working knowledge of DOORS, CAD, CFD, and FE
- Membership of INCOSE and Professional Certification
- Experience with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis and Safety Assessments
- Knowledge of airborne Store Carriage and Release systems
- Ability to lead other team members or subcontractors technically on multiple projects
- Experience as a Compliance Verification Engineer
- Chartered Engineer status (or be sufficiently qualified, trained, and experienced to attain it)
