The Radar Repair Technician is responsible for the inspection, fault diagnosis, repair, testing and certification of radar electronic Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) down to component level. The role supports the availability of radar spares across the CLS contract and provides engineering support to remote radar sites to ensure contractual KPIs, quality and safety obligations are met.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, fault-find and repair failed radar LRUs down to component level (3rd/4th line support).
  • Reverse engineer complex electronic units where documentation or support is limited.
  • Test, certify and release repaired units to ensure safety, compliance and quality standards are met.
  • Source obsolete or ageing electronic components using approved online and specialist suppliers.
  • Maintain responsibility for workshop safety, quality compliance and continuous improvement activities.
  • Maintain, manage and calibrate all tools and test equipment required to support the electronics workshop.
  • Package, track and distribute repaired LRUs to remote radar sites.
  • Provide engineering support to Remote Radar Head (RRH) sites, including radar modifications and installation tasks when required.
  • Assist with spares management and the movement of LRUs between workshop and remote sites.
  • Work closely with Logistics, RRH Site Managers and System Managers to ensure effective service delivery.

Reason for the Role

  • Maintain sufficient levels of serviceable spare LRUs to achieve CLS contract KPI targets.
  • Support quality compliance, safety requirements and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Enable RRH sites to deliver contracted radar availability and performance.
  • Reduce turnaround time on repairs to maximise radar spares availability and contractual performance.

Organisational Context

The Radar Repair Technician reports directly to the AD Radars Senior Programme Manager and operates within a matrix environment requiring close collaboration with: Logistics Manager, RRH Site Managers, RRH System Managers.

Key Accountabilities

Essential Qualifications

  • Recognised electronics and electrical qualification
  • Desirable: Recognised RF qualification

Essential Skills & Knowledge

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in electronics engineering
  • Proven fault-finding and repair skills to component level
  • Understanding of RF systems and their maintenance
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Desirable: At least 3 years' experience working with RF systems

Essential Experience

  • Demonstrable track record in fault diagnosis, repair, rectification and maintenance of electronic equipment at component level
  • Experience working with RF-based systems in an operational or support environment
