Lead Systems Engineer Location: Kent (On-site) About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Lead Systems Engineer / Team Lead to join a highly innovative engineering organisation working on complex, technology-driven projects. The Role This position is responsible for leading, mentoring and developing engineers within a systems engineering environment. You will provide technical guidance, support career development and wellbeing initiatives, and help shape the long-term capability of the team. Working closely with project and engineering stakeholders, you will contribute to technical decision-making, resource planning, project execution and strategic planning. You will ensure teams are equipped with the right skills, resources and tools to deliver work packages successfully, while maintaining alignment with project objectives, schedules and budgets. Key Responsibilities Lead, mentor and support engineers in their professional development and day-to-day activities Foster a positive team culture, promoting engagement, wellbeing and continuous improvement Understand project scope, deliverables, timelines and resource requirements to support successful project delivery Collaborate with project and engineering managers to assess team capacity and future resource needs Provide recommendations on skills development, recruitment and workforce planning Ensure project dependencies, facilities and technical requirements are identified and managed effectively Support business growth activities by contributing to bids, estimates and proposals Monitor and maintain project schedules, budgets and engineering plans Work across multidisciplinary teams to identify and implement effective technical solutions Essential Requirements Degree qualification, or equivalent experience, in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline such as Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics or Mathematics Proven experience within a Systems Engineering environment and across the engineering lifecycle Experience using industry-standard systems engineering and requirements management tools such as DOORS, Polarion, Enterprise Architect, Cameo, MATLAB and/or Simulink Demonstrated experience leading teams and making technical and/or managerial decisions Strong stakeholder management, communication and leadership skills About the Team The Systems Engineering function provides expertise across project planning, work package management, scheduling, resource allocation and engineering strategy. In this role, you will work closely with Project Managers and Engineering Leaders to understand both short-term and long-term programme requirements, enabling effective workforce planning and project execution. You will lead a team of skilled engineers, ensuring delivery against agreed objectives while supporting the development of future engineering capability. What's in It for You?
