Our client in the Defence & Security sector is looking for a skilled Prototype Technician to join their permanent team. The role involves combining electronic and mechanical assembly to create cutting-edge, bespoke products. You will bridge the gap between Engineering and Production, maintaining high-quality standards and streamlining production flow, with an ability to write SOPs if required. Reporting to the Senior Technician (Production Team Lead), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our client's business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ability to solder, crimp, undertake mechanical and cable assemblies in accordance with IPC-A-610C standards
  • Assemble mechanical and electromechanical components from engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions
  • Carry out prototype wiring, including crimping, soldering, cable routing, and harness assembly
  • Build and modify prototypes in a fast-paced R&D environment
  • Interpret wiring diagrams, technical drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Perform rework and design changes as required during development stages
  • Conduct basic inspection and testing
  • Work closely with engineering teams to resolve build and design issues

Job Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain UK security clearance
  • Proven experience in wiring, cable assembly, or electromechanical assembly
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring schematics
  • Skilled in soldering, crimping, and general bench assembly
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards
  • Good manual dexterity and practical skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Experience in prototype or R&D environments (desirable)
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620 standards (training or certification beneficial)
  • Basic electrical testing knowledge (e.g., multi-meters, continuity testing) (desirable)
