Location: Glasgow | Onsite

Salary: £40,016 per annum + 33% shift allowance where applicable

Shift Patterns:

  • Days: Monday to Thursday, 07:00 - 16:30
  • Nights: Monday to Thursday, 20:30 - 06:00
  • Weekends: Friday to Sunday, 07:00 - 19:30

Important: Applicants must be able to attend a recruitment day in Glasgow for a trades test.

The Opportunity

We are seeking skilled Fabricator Platers to join a leading shipbuilding and manufacturing environment in Glasgow. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the construction of complex, high-quality engineering projects while working alongside experienced teams in a safety-focused and collaborative setting. You'll play a key role in the fabrication and assembly of large-scale steel structures, using your technical expertise to deliver work to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings, mark out materials, and prepare plate using methods such as oxy-fuel cutting and hand grinding
  • Assemble large steel structures, including shells, decks, bulkheads, frames, and longitudinals, ensuring accurate fitting, fairing, and tack welding
  • Fabricate structural and outfitting components including ladders, hatches, flooring systems, doors, panels, seats, and support structures
  • Form and shape materials using specialist machinery, including rolling, flanging, guillotines, croppers, and mechanical saws
  • Maintain quality standards and ensure all work is completed in accordance with engineering specifications
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental requirements while working across a range of manufacturing conditions

What We're Looking For

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Modern Apprenticeship Certificate / Trade Papers (required)
  • Relevant mechanical qualification such as SVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent
  • Proven fabrication experience within construction, shipbuilding, manufacturing, or heavy engineering environments
  • Strong understanding of fabrication techniques and core manufacturing processes
  • Experience carrying out tack welding to required quality and safety standards
  • Competent in the safe operation of oxy-fuel and/or plasma cutting equipment
  • Commitment to following safe systems of work, risk assessments, and SHE principles
  • Experience working in confined spaces and/or at height, supported by relevant safety certifications
  • Ability to accurately interpret engineering and technical drawings

The Team

You'll be joining a team of skilled Fabricator Platers working on complex engineering and shipbuilding projects. Working in teams of 6-12, you will use your technical training and practical fabrication expertise to produce high-quality steelwork that supports nationally significant programmes and projects.

Security Requirements

Successful applicants will be required to meet applicable security screening requirements, including achieving Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance. Some positions may require higher levels of security clearance, which can be subject to residency and eligibility criteria.
