Our client, a prominent name in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a contract FPGA Engineer to join their esteemed team. This role is centred in the Surveillance Sector, where you will play a crucial part in developing firmware and working on FPGAs that support both proven surveillance radar systems and breakthrough next-generation technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing high-performance firmware for critical surveillance radar solutions like Osprey and Seaspray
- Engaging in requirement capture, architecture definition, design maturation, integration, and qualification support of next-generation surveillance radars
- Analysing system-level requirements and capturing/deriving detailed firmware requirements
- Utilising technical expertise in firmware design techniques and tools, from VHDL to place-and-route
- Specifying timing and area constraints for efficient FPGA place-and-route
- Integrating and debugging complex systems where firmware interacts with hardware and software
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure successful project delivery
- Mentoring junior team members to enhance their skills in firmware development
Job Requirements:
- Degree (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, PhD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or a related field
- Ability to analyse system level requirements and derive detailed firmware requirements
- Experience in firmware design techniques and tools, from VHDL to place-and-route
- Experience with FPGA architectures such as system-on-chip (e.g., Xilinx Versal)
- Proficiency in specifying timing and area constraints for FPGA place-and-route
- Experience in integrating and debugging complex systems involving firmware, hardware, and software
- Experience working in mixed-discipline teams
- Due to the nature of the work, five years of UK residency and the capability to achieve full SC security clearance are required
Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience with auto-generated code using model-driven engineering tools like MATLAB and Simulink
- Proficiency in design tools such as Verilog, System Verilog, and UVM
- Experience with Siemens tools like HDL Designer and QuestaSim
- Familiarity with using tools like DOORs and ReqTracer
- Experience within the defence industry
Location/Hybrid Working Requirements:
This role is based on-site in Edinburgh. You can expect to be onsite a minimum of 3 days per week, with more time on site required to meet project demands.
