Job Summary:
The People and Training Directorate, led by Director People & Training (Dir P&T), is responsible for attracting, recruiting, training, sustaining and retaining inspired, capable and motivated people in an agile and flexible Whole Force to enable the Royal Navy to succeed on operations by putting our people capability first.
The Directorate therefore spans a multitude of both policy, functional and delivery areas. This includes the various training establishments, people and training strategy, and the full breadth of traditional HR functions including recruitment and attraction, remuneration, workforce planning and talent management. There are distinct teams too, such as the Royal Navy Office of Protocol, the Nuclear Faculty and Royal Navy Police HQ. The Directorate also incorporates the Chaplaincy, Legal and Healthcare functions to deliver the full gamut of people business.

Navy Sport is part of the trinity of Physical Development which also includes Adventurous Training and Physical Education. Physical Development is a key component of RN People Support which has the departmental objective to strengthen and enhance the resourcefulness and resilience of NS personnel and their families.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job Description:
RN Physical Development programmes contribute significantly to the development and sustainability of the Moral Component of Operational Capability by delivering individuals who are mentally and physically robust with a high degree of war-fighting spirit; they also make a substantial contribution to the maintenance of high morale. Sport also contributes to fitness, teamwork, leadership, self-discipline, determination, co-ordination, courage, competitive spirit, individual and collective resilience, and consequently military ethos. Inextricably linked to operational efficiency, authorised sport is a Condition of Service with duty status and is a core activity that cannot be considered discretionary.
In support of Dir P & T/People Support objectives, the Sport Assistant (SDA) will work under the management of SO1 Sport as the assistant staffing focal point for the 14 Major Sports within the Royal Navy, (Hockey, Tennis, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Football, Cricket, Swimming, Athletics, Boxing, Golf, Netball, Squash, Sailing and Winter Sports). Additional roles are supporting the development of minor sports to markedly increase participation. This role is primarily delivery focused in support of multiple events and activities and draws on organisational skills, the ability to prioritise effectively and communicate clearly with a broad range of service and civilian stakeholders.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.

Essential Licence:
UK Driving Licence Cat B as a minimum
Experience:
A clear passion for the delivery, administration and facilitation of sport, with experience as a competitor, coach or official.
Knowledge of the issues and complexities surrounding sport in the Royal Navy.
An understanding of safety and assurance policy and delivery.
Experience of working in a team.
Desirable:
Prior Armed Forces experience
A range of sport coaching qualifications
Sound understanding of Navy structure operating practices.
