Defence Nuclear Enterprise

The Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) is part of the Ministry of Defence that procures, supports, and disposes of the United Kingdoms nuclear submarines. The role is key to the UKs continuous at sea nuclear deterrent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate chemicals introduced to submarines during design, build and in service phases.
  • Collaborate with industry specialists and develop expertise in Occupational Hygiene, Material Toxicology and Chemical Safety Management.
  • Peer review specialist safety limits and independently assess continuous exposure limits.
  • Lead or support internal safety audit activities.
  • Assist the MoD in protecting submariner health and contribute to mission success.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum NQF level in a relevant health and safety discipline; NEBOSH certificate required.
  • Experience leading material safety advice.
  • Membership or pursuit of a relevant professional membership (e.g., Occupational Hygiene, Toxicology, COSHH) and/or British Occupational Hygiene Society Certificate of Operational Competence (CertOccHyg or ICertOccHyg) within six months of start.
  • Experience with biocidal regulations, REACH compliance and a lead auditor qualification such as ISO 9001.

Location and Working Arrangement

Primary location: Bristol, Abbey Wood. Working 37 hours per week, with hybrid and flexible options available. This role is reserved for UK nationals only.

  • Annual salary of 37400.
