Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to ensure the performance, availability, security, and integrity of mission-critical Oracle database environments for our client. This role combines proactive maintenance, incident resolution, and strategic improvements across on-premise and cloud platforms. You will work primarily remotely, joining a collaborative technical team.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and maintain Oracle databases to ensure high availability and performance.
- Monitor database health and performance, identifying bottlenecks and tuning systems effectively.
- Perform backup, recovery, patching, and upgrade operations, including disaster recovery planning.
- Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and support teams to deploy schema changes and enhancements.
- Implement and enforce database security best practices, ensuring compliance with organisational standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve database incidents and service interruptions in a timely manner.
- Contribute to capacity planning, automation, and documentation of processes and procedures.
- Support Oracle RAC, Data Guard, RMAN, performance tuning, and data replication tools where applicable (depending on stack).
Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as an Oracle DBA supporting production environments.
- Strong understanding of Oracle architecture and tools (backup/recovery, performance monitoring, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with SQL and PL/SQL.
- Familiarity with performance tuning and optimisation techniques.
- Experience with database security, access control, and compliance.
- Comfortable with scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell) is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
Desirable / Nice-to-Have
- Oracle certification (e.g., OCP).
- Experience with cloud database services or running Oracle in hybrid cloud/on-premise environments.
- Experience with RAC, Data Guard, GoldenGate, or similar high-availability solutions.
- Knowledge of related tools (OEM, AWR/ASH reporting).
