What the job involves

Mastercard Foundry is the innovation engine of Mastercard and a hub for new product development. We do this by driving product innovation in emerging technologies and interfaces while focusing on developing a point of view to enhance existing solutions and new use-cases. We also focus on building revenue-generating ecosystems and flywheels that can be standalone in adjacent segments and markets. Examples of focus areas include commercial payments, new payment flows, data and services, and applications of artificial intelligence.

Within Foundry, the Director, Product Development will be supporting the execution of new to market product development across core payments and services. Role responsibility includes identification, execution, and in-market delivery of new products and solutions. The responsibilities will include execution of near-term opportunities that drive significantly in-year revenue and strategic differentiation for Mastercard, as well as scoping, identification, and in-market testing of longer-term product concepts and solutions.

In addition, the role will support identification and partnerships with ecosystem partners (e.g., banks, merchants, fintechs, marketplaces) that are critical to testing and launching B2B2C products. This role requires strong product development leadership with the ability to seamlessly move between technical depth, commercial modelling, and strategic framing, depending on the audience and stage of development.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identify, assess, and prioritise market opportunities across core payments and services, translating customer needs and market signals into clear product opportunities.
  • Develop compelling narratives, value propositions, and business cases supporting investment and prioritisation decisions.
  • Drive thought leadership and a structured learning agenda across priority opportunity areas, incorporating insights from market tests, pilots, and partner engagements.
  • Act as a trusted partner to senior stakeholders, influencing product strategy, innovation priorities, and go-to-market decisions.
  • Partner closely with cross-functional teams across Mastercard—including Technology, CXD, Legal, Risk, and Commercial—to design solutions, manage dependencies, and secure alignment and buy-in.
  • Lead and contribute to idea generation for new to market products and solutions, including workshop facilitation, concept development, and creation of supporting collateral.
  • Work with product management, engineering, CXD, and legal teams to progress ideas from concept to commercialisation.
  • Operate effectively within a matrixed organisation, influencing outcomes and delivering results within tight timelines and evolving priorities.
